RENE LACAILLE – PRESS REVIEWS
‘CORDEON KAMELEON’ 2008-2009
« Should we introduce René Lacaille ? The accordion layer, the guitar player and singer and bass player too is one of the more attractive figures of music from la Reunion – one of the most important too. Cordéon Kaméléon sums up his adventures and meetings with some road-compagnions as Bob Brozman, Danyel Waro, Denis Péan (Lo’Jo) and the new comer Tommy C. Jordan on the very jazzy Love Above… »
2009 Mondomix

« Generous, travelling, lively, imaginative, restraintless, frankly rejoicing, that album just looks like its author. ..René invited his many friends. Serious musicians who at the same time are his brothers in musical fiestas…A family for un album…to mke people feel good. An dit works ! » Philippe Labesse
2009 Le Monde - France

If you find that the world is too depressing, go and listen to René Lacaille, the accordion player from the reunion island, you will go out at the top of our form. He founded the band Caméléon with the legendary Alain Péters, one of the groups which made maloya be known as world music, and as a melodist and singer he loves nothing more than open his door to his friends. That is why on his last album Cordeon Kaméléon (Connecting Cultures Records) he invites Danyel Waro. THE voice of his island and Bob Brozman… »
2009, le Nouvel Observateur -France

« …with Danyel Waro, he is the ambassador of the rythms of his birth-island La Réunion, whose ryhtms he modernised. Two feet on the field of tradition but heart open to any encounter…. »
2009 Marianne – France

« wonderful gift qhere sega and maloya get married to the thousand and one colours that the cirtuoso made his through his career. All the music he loves is here. Brotherly, plain and enlightened. With his pals as a bonus.Magic. »
2009 Chorus – France

Bio

Reunion Island
Creole songs accordeon

René Lacaille is the master of the spicy séga-maloya
rhythms of the Réunion Island, Indian Ocean. As a child,
he played in balls with his father, before creating the
legendary group Caméléon who invented electric Maloya,
blending traditional music with modern western timbres.
René’s talent and curiosity led him to master accordion,
guitar, bongos, ukulélé, accordina and saxophone. René
recorded with the famous maloya singer Danyel Waro
(Patango) and with the great American guitarist Bob
Brozman (Digdig).
René received many awards (Gus Viseur price, Grand prix
Charles Cros-German Ctricis Award) that testify of his faithfulness to the traditions,
creativity and sense of universality.
