Bio

When lead guitarist Jonathan Holmes and bassist Kevin Dodds first started jamming together in the middle of 2004 they had no idea what they might be getting themselves into. “At the time I thought that we had a chance to go somewhere as a band,” Holmes recalls. Dodds adds, “We thought we had the potential to do some special things with the gifts God has given to us.” Formed with a desire to create original rock compositions that would impact the lives of those around them, Renewed Insight was born, albeit under the temporary name Chex Mix. “We called ourselves that for a while until we realized there might be some copyright problems down the road,” Holmes said. The Christian alternative-rock band based out of Waynesboro, PA has wants to distinguish itself from other groups by working to fulfill its mission of demonstrating God’s love to the people that they encounter. “If I could sum us up in two words they would be connection and honesty,” Dodds says. “We try to help people connect to God and each other through honest lyrics that cut to the core of our humanity.”

The guys began playing covers of popular Christian songs while working on writing some original material. The musical influences of Anberlin, Relient K, and Switchfoot are very prevalent throughout their music. However, they knew that the next step to progressing as a band was finding a quality drummer. In mid 2005 that dream was realized when the band met Jon Pyle, a talented drummer, through a mutual friend. They were quickly impressed with Jon and realized that he would enhance their musicianship with his superb drumming skills and creativity. “When we first jammed a few times I noticed that we had pretty good rhythm. I was so excited to get involved in a local band of Christian guys,” notes Pyle. Following the addition of Jon, the band started to craft its original sound and began to play more local shows using the name Identity Crisis. They changed their name to Renewed Insight upon discovering that several other bands on MySpace used the same name.

2007 has been a key turning point in the direction of the band. In February, after realizing that they needed to solidify their sound, Renewed Insight added rhythm guitarist Jake Dvorak to the band. Jake brought a newfound energy and enthusiasm that became contagious and translated into more energetic show performances. Dvorak explains, “We rock for the Savior. We’re not just an ordinary band but a band with a purpose, a band with a mission—to show God’s love to the world.” As the band kept playing together more frequently and developing exposure, they began to tighten themselves musically. The guys also began to realize that their largest area for growth was vocal improvement. God would lead the band to meet lead singer John Keifman in August, kicking off a fury of fall concerts that culminated in a show opening for bands like Pillar, Jars of Clay, and Everyday Sunday at ShoutFest 2007 in Mount Vernon, OH through a high finish at the ShoutFest Battle of the Bands. Keifman brings a strong focus and passion to the band, which he manifests in his singing.

Renewed Insight is committed to staying true to its small-town roots, and the band members are dedicated staying true to themselves as well. Their goal is to represent Christ to other people while leaving the world a better place than they found it. The guys hope that their songs will reach people from all backgrounds and that their lyrics will resonate with the youth and adults of this generation.
