Biography

An undeniable presence, an emotional offering raw and uplifting… this Renaissance Rock Warrior, swooping down from hundreds of years of beauty sleep, has picked modern day LA to bring us her unique alternative rock music… with the passionate voice of Renfey and the resonant sounds from music producer Kor, they invite you into the wild realm of their musical wonderland.

Renfey pours out her soul on this debut CD, “Rise” – twelve songs combining gritty guitars, urban beats and rich orchestral arrangements. “Over Occupation”, a driven alternative rock song sends its message of unity inside a monster wall-of-sound chorus. This song, along with the buoyant ode to loving the moment, “Right Here”, appears in the 20th Century Fox film “Hangman’s Curse”. “Rise” and “Light Air I Breathe” are landscapes of intimacy and passion building into the dynamic choruses that have become Renfey’s signature. The sexy grooves of “Cravings” and “Undeniable” color the alternative rock sound with a jazz yearning and electronica infusion, while “Journey” and “Old Man” are some of Renfey’s most vulnerable revelations of self-discovery. Renfey has also been featured in the award winning Lifetime television series “Strong Medicine”, Billy Bob Thornton’s critically acclaimed film “The Badge”, the end title song for Salma Hayek’s directorial debut “The Maldonado Miracle” and the upcoming 20th Century Fox film "The Visitation".

Renfey grew up in the foothills of the Sierra. “I have always sought the inspiration of music. I cannot remember a time I didn’t sing…” Music and performance have been the backdrop of her growing up, nurtured by a joyous obsession with theater, books, philosophizing and the fine art of dreaming, listening to the jazz greats along with her parents collection of the classics and rock and roll, begging for voice lessons at ten years old and finally defining her own artistic measures through writing songs, playing guitar and searching out fellow musicians for coveted late night jam sessions. In Los Angeles, she began performing at the local coffee houses before forming a band and booking clubs such as The Mint and The Knitting Factory to a growing audience. Still working solo both writing and orchestrating the band, her need to expand her music led to the search for a producer. “There was so much music swirling in my head, but I needed a musical partner”. And she found producer Kor whose background as a classical composer and his passion for world music, instrumentation and wild wizardry of strings and beats seemed a manifestation of all the strange notions in Renfey’s head. Their meeting began a musical odyssey truly creating a dynamic collaboration of songs and music, both discovering a freedom in each other and a shared artistic vision. “The second day I met Kor, I was inspired by a simple piano part he was playing, and in just one vocal take, this song just flowed out of me – It’s called “Catch My Fall”. I had to put it on the album. It is the beginning.” Before going into the studio to write and record the album, Renfey performed many shows in such venues as The Viper Room, The Mint and The Key Club –

“Renfey looks and sings like a faery, visiting us lesser mortals for an hour to deliver her ethereal yet rocking music. She wails to her uplifting rock delivered with engaging melodies.” (Music Connection)

“Renfey seems poised for stardom. She puts her heart and soul into her vocals and has such a stage presence one feels lucky to be an audience member.” (LA Weekly)

Of course, Renfey has not stopped writing songs with the release of “Rise”, and she is currently performing live shows with a full band in Los Angeles. “What an amazing time in my life, all those nights of writing and exploring my mystical side, but the modern rock warrior in me is loving playing these songs live.” With music in hand and the stage lights beckoning, Renfey is here and ready to sing… undeniably.

Over Occupation

Written By: Renfey

OVER OCCUPATION

Comes from the heart
Down the school halls, too cool to let it show
I feel like you do, this grace I cannot fake
I’m as real as you, behind this mask what you feel
A thousand words unsaid, there was something about you
Maybe we could be friends instead

No fault of yours, no fault of mine
No one to blame but the over occupation of the mind
That draws the line
Own up to yours, own up to mine
No one to blame but the over occupation of the mind
No more lines this time

Self-indulgence of the mind I can’t erase the place I’ve been
Mistakes I’ve made, the shadow I was in

Down the school halls, all day the same game
Nothing to hide but everything inside
So unique it seems but more the same than you think
I knew we would end up friends, there was something about you
Your island looked a lot like mine

Raise your eyes, raise your hands, raise you eyes
Own up to yours Own up to mine
No one to blame but the over occupation of the mind
No more lines this time

No fault of yours, no fault of mine
No one to blame but the over occupation of the mind
That draws the line
No fault of yours, no fault of mine
No one to blame but the over occupation of the mind
That draws the line
Own up to yours, own up to mine
No one to blame but the over occupation of the mind
No more lines this time

Gotta come from the heart
From the heart

Cravings

Written By: Renfey

CRAVINGS

This is the heart that wakes
This is the mind in rumination
This is the heart made of stone
This is the hand resisting the wall
The soul that steals the captive self

But when your feeling takes you to the edge
And when you’re cravings take you to the edge
Don’t deny you are alive

This is the hand that buried the stone
Because this is the heart made of flesh and bone
This is the mind that scaled the wall
Because this is the soul too awake to crawl

So when you’re feeling all unnecessary
When your cravings take you to the edge
When you’re feeling all unnecessary
Don’t deny you feel alive
Because this is the heart that wakes
This is the heart that wakes

So when your cravings take you to the edge
When you’re feeling all unnecessary
Don’t deny you are alive
You are alive
And you wake and you wake

You are gonna sweep the sky
You are a butterfly

Because all your cravings make you alive
And all this feeling makes you alive
Don’t deny, don’t deny you are alive
So alive
This is the heart that wakes

Light Air I Breathe

Written By: Renfey

LIGHT AIR I BREATHE

I found that keeping it in is so much harder
Than letting go of the sheltered soul
And now I’m fed, I feel power and round
Because you feed me, my core, my power, my identity

A tempest has stolen my crown
Furious winds handle my skin
Defiant on the road I’ve been
I wait against this ache to throw me again
Will someday love free me
Will someday love find me
A lover who sees
Oh how I only need

Light air I breathe, light air I breathe
Weightless and free, light air I breathe

A shadow still lingers in me
Oh this weight holds me in
I consider this wreath at my feet
I loved greatly but I’m so lonely lately
Then a man braved the rain in me
Then a man braved the torrent of me
With a crown of flowers and leaves
He hands me a new crown
He gives me a new crown of flowers and leaves
Oh and I slowly sing

Light air I breathe, light air I breathe
Weightless and free, light air I breathe
And when the dawn slowly comes around
Washes me clean the heavy within
I feel the sun, I breathe in now that I’ve found
He rides next to me

Undeniable

Written By: Renfey

All that I see so close it breathes
All I deny so this won’t pass me by
I’ve got my head in the clouds
I want it bad like I don’t know how
Oh sacrifice like a swan dive
All to keep my dream alive
All that I feel I sing aloud
It’s worth the time if it happens now
Because this is undeniable, undeniable

Sweet illusion so real to me
All that I need is some room to believe
Like a bird each fall returns
If I’m refused my fire still burns
Because this is undeniable, undeniable

Time, time ain’t gonna wait for you
One of those things just keeps moving on
Time, time don’t let it pass you by
You only got one chance to fly

I find I feel like I’m running here
Feel the burn in my heart have to move
And I don’t know why
Sing like I’m home gonna bring my words
On the edge I’m strong
And I know it won’t be long
Dance on my own gonna chance the world
If I stand up strong
And I know it won’t be long
Because this is Undeniable…

Come Down

Written By: Renfey

And you glow when you show what you feel when you’re real
This is me
Turn around come down put your feet on the ground
Is this really you

You’re acting so smooth but I can see through you
You’re acting so tough
How can I defend you, always this pretend you
You’re passing me by like you have to hide everything you feel
How about the real you define you, everything you feel please

Why hold your fire inside
I’m tired of waiting for you to decide
I know you’re so much more that this
But all you ever do is make me feel so far away, I always see you
Pushing shoving out in the crowd screaming aloud
What you’re about is more than this

Come on, come down man you’re so high
Acting like you don’t care how’s the view up there
Come on come down out of those clouds
Acting like you have it all well it’s a long way to fall

You’re acting so cool with nothing to prove
You seem so far away
I try to understand you, a shadow in my view
You’re passing me by like you have to hide everything you feel
How about the real you define you, everything you feel please

Why hold your fire inside
I’m tired of waiting for you to decide
I know you’re so much more that this
But all you ever do is make me feel so far away, I always see you
Pushing shoving out in the crowd screaming aloud
What you’re about is more than this

I have seen you radiate
You’re frozen, but I have seen you radiate

I know you’re so much more that this
But all you ever do is make me feel so far away, I always see you
Pushing shoving out in the crowd screaming aloud
I know I feel you
All I want to see is how the real you shines inside
