"A TRULY WONDERFUL RECORDING"

If Amy Lee hadn't responded to the ad that called for a cute goth-rock chick with a knack for writing AC ballads, Renfey would have been a shoo-in for the position. This isn't to say that Renfey is a second-rate solo version of Evanescence, but the obvious similarities -- nü metal guitars, electronic beats, feminine angst -- can't be ignored. If anything, tracks like "Come Down" and "Over Occupation" stress the similarity, and the passionate vocals and grand choruses recall the formula that gave Fallen its mainstream appeal.

Rise relies on Renfey's beautiful, crystalline voice and ethereal presence, brought out by collaborator/producer Kor, who provides sweeping orchestral arrangements. To Renfey's credit, Rise has many worthy qualities, not the least of which is her apparent inability to hit a wrong note. Every sound that comes out of her mouth is meant for the master tapes; Rise is a truly wonderful recording.

"RENFEY - LIVE AT THE MINT"

Material: When bandleader Renfey first takes the stage, her dress and style bear a strong resemblance to a young Stevie Nicks. But, unlike the notably shy Nicks, Renfey comes off more like a show-woman who performs with the dramatic flair of a Broadway star. She has a powerfully haunting voice and, with the help of bandmate/producer Kor, she sings atop a sound that is reminiscent of Evanescence.
Musicianship: The players of Renfey are masterful on their instruments and are apparently up to snuff on the latest-and-greatest tech toys that can make a few players sound like an entire band backed by a full orchestra. Although Renfey is a beauty with a powerful set of pipes, guitarist and keyboardist Kor manages to shine through with his multi-tasking talents on guitars, keys and other noise makers that blend to perfection. Pagliarulo, Teperberg and electronic/keys master Pfeiffer are all a treat, as wall, making you want to watch them all at once at the same time.
Performance: Renfey didn't come out and simply perform a gig. This group created an event. Not only was the music inspiring, but every musician onstage played with fire and passion, as Renfey bared her soul over and over again with every note and lyric. This perfomance was so encompassing that the audience fell easily under Renfey's spell.
Summary: Renfey gives an audience their money's worth. This live act's performance provides originality, and if the Renfey clan can continue to maintain their enthusiasm and creativity, they will achieve success.

Bio

An undeniable presence, an emotional offering raw and uplifting… this Renaissance Rock Warrior, swooping down from hundreds of years of beauty sleep, has picked modern day LA to bring us her unique alternative rock music… with the passionate voice of Renfey and the resonant sounds from music producer Kor, they invite you into the wild realm of their musical wonderland.

Renfey pours out her soul on this debut CD, “Rise” – twelve songs combining gritty guitars, urban beats and rich orchestral arrangements. “Over Occupation”, a driven alternative rock song sends its message of unity inside a monster wall-of-sound chorus. This song, along with the buoyant ode to loving the moment, “Right Here”, appears in the 20th Century Fox film “Hangman’s Curse”. “Rise” and “Light Air I Breathe” are landscapes of intimacy and passion building into the dynamic choruses that have become Renfey’s signature. The sexy grooves of “Cravings” and “Undeniable” color the alternative rock sound with a jazz yearning and electronica infusion, while “Journey” and “Old Man” are some of Renfey’s most vulnerable revelations of self-discovery. Renfey has also been featured in the award winning Lifetime television series “Strong Medicine”, Billy Bob Thornton’s critically acclaimed film “The Badge”, the end title song for Salma Hayek’s directorial debut “The Maldonado Miracle” and the upcoming 20th Century Fox film "The Visitation".

Renfey grew up in the foothills of the Sierra. “I have always sought the inspiration of music. I cannot remember a time I didn’t sing…” Music and performance have been the backdrop of her growing up, nurtured by a joyous obsession with theater, books, philosophizing and the fine art of dreaming, listening to the jazz greats along with her parents collection of the classics and rock and roll, begging for voice lessons at ten years old and finally defining her own artistic measures through writing songs, playing guitar and searching out fellow musicians for coveted late night jam sessions. In Los Angeles, she began performing at the local coffee houses before forming a band and booking clubs such as The Mint and The Knitting Factory to a growing audience. Still working solo both writing and orchestrating the band, her need to expand her music led to the search for a producer. “There was so much music swirling in my head, but I needed a musical partner”. And she found producer Kor whose background as a classical composer and his passion for world music, instrumentation and wild wizardry of strings and beats seemed a manifestation of all the strange notions in Renfey’s head. Their meeting began a musical odyssey truly creating a dynamic collaboration of songs and music, both discovering a freedom in each other and a shared artistic vision. “The second day I met Kor, I was inspired by a simple piano part he was playing, and in just one vocal take, this song just flowed out of me – It’s called “Catch My Fall”. I had to put it on the album. It is the beginning.” Before going into the studio to write and record the album, Renfey performed many shows in such venues as The Viper Room, The Mint and The Key Club –

“Renfey looks and sings like a faery, visiting us lesser mortals for an hour to deliver her ethereal yet rocking music. She wails to her uplifting rock delivered with engaging melodies.” (Music Connection)

“Renfey seems poised for stardom. She puts her heart and soul into her vocals and has such a stage presence one feels lucky to be an audience member.” (LA Weekly)

Of course, Renfey has not stopped writing songs with the release of “Rise”, and she is currently performing live shows with a full band in Los Angeles. “What an amazing time in my life, all those nights of writing and exploring my mystical side, but the modern rock warrior in me is loving playing these songs live.” With music in hand and the stage lights beckoning, Renfey is here and ready to sing… undeniably.
