"Hip Hop and Jazz creates another southern star. only this star doesn't get its glow from a chrome wheel or a diamond around it's neck. But it comes from a God- given gift"

The April 19 anniversary of the bombing just passed, and we all gave our moments of silence, and condolences to those who lost loved ones. Radio programmers dedicated their time to pay tribute, and ceremonies were held at the memorial. But one thing seems to be missing out of this community gathering, black people. I think Legit explained this mentality the best, we don’t think our presence is needed in national tragedies like the bombing, let’s just take lil ray ray to a Martin Luther King parade and call it a day. Funny right, but a local independent label called Untapped records didn’t go for that, when Hip Hop artist Reno made an incredible effort in bridging the gap, when he wrote a song paying tribute to the April 19th tragedy, the song is hot might I add. It features Untapped owner “Legit mindz”, and spiritual artist “Deon”. This song represents Hip Hop as universal muzik, wrote to contribute to the whole community, which makes it easy for all people to understand. We shouldn’t stay locked in an urban community. Being careless about what goes on outside our neighborhood only adds to the power of stopping our voices.
You’ll be surprised what music can be used for.

Southern hip-hop will never be the same. yes? The latest southern star, Reno, who was recently voted as Oklahoma’s favorite local artist on Power 103.5, plans on changing the industry. He established a rep for his cool-laid back style after releasing his first 2004 single, “Diplomat”. In this breezy track Reno breaks down the “Hoopty” theory, testing a female‘s loyalty by getting her to take a ride in his old school Diplomat. But this year he’s reloaded, firing his second new single, “Trunk muzik”, landing as a certified head banger in the club. Noise is definitely being made around the red dirt for the out-and-proud MC. He looks to solidify his spot as the next big movement in the south - Chris paul

Bio
Ay Reno!
Brief bio on the Artist
Hip Hop/Soul artist Reno was created in two twin citys, Oklahoma city, Oklahoma, being his birth place, and raised in the other twin, Minneapolis, Minnesota. His family roots fell into the cliché Gospel realm, by his mother being a choir director, and father being a bass guitar player for his family based group called The Harmonizers. I call it old folks music, Reno would say. Reno was exposed to Hip Hop music for the first time at the age of 4. LL Cool Js, Mama said knock you out, played on one of those video channels, Reno recalls. His attitude would just amaze me, Id run and get my sisters bucket hat and start imitating him when it came on . Now that Reno has matured as an artist, hes definitely on the right path to being an individual giving his form of Hip Hop. Independent label Untapped Records broke Renos first single Diplomat on Power jamming 1140AM, along with the mix CD A smoother ride. Reno took it upon himself to make sure every living person in the city had his music, earning him street familiarity, and a solidified spot on Untapped Records.
Its been almost 4 years since then for Reno. A lot of artists would consider it years of waiting, ask Reno and hed say hes almost got his Bachelors in life. I was taught to not want to be rescued out of my situations, but work my way out, Im going to hammer that concept into the heads of all these rappers, and so-called music critics. Him and his label promoted many ventures over the years in the area, The Pretty party, Black love concert, Do what you wanna do event with Devin the Dude, all included local artists, in that I learned how to create my own crowd, instead of waiting for one, Reno states. Hes also shared the platform with national artists Lil Flip, Jagged Edge, Mike Jones, Devin the Dude, Adina Howard, Guerilla Black, and Lyfe. He was named Oklahomas favorite local artist on 103.5FM, and had the honor of being the first local artist to be put in rotation on Power 103.5FM.
Now, Renos finished his third project called The Green light, promoting his third single Now that youre gone, and is looking forward to touring the states and abroad to spread himself and his art. Renos also involved in Djing, Spinning at local clubs and public events, one being for Nellys Apple bottom model search that took place in the area, and putting together his first DJ mix called Neo-crunk n' soul: mixdown. He holds a spot as the drummer for a Soul/Jazz band called Direct effect that performs at Oklahomas club Hole in the wall, is working on a playwright, and is developing a political entertainment magazine with his label. Hes definitely determined to tap into every audience any way he knows how, Im unhappy with our current mind set in Hip Hop, so I reach as much people as possible with good art to do my part in changing it, not to mention, I love what I do.
