"G.I. Interview"

Gothic International were fortunate enough to have an interview with Resando.
1. Resando is an interesting name; what does it mean and why did you choose it?

Resando is a word that stands for the feeling of sadness and regret that comes right after waking up from a dream that one wishes to have been real. We like to think of it as to how you feel after having listened to a beautiful song, and as soon as it has stopped playing you’re brought back to reality.

2. If you could describe your music in three words, what would they be?

Hypnotizing
Poisoning
Corrosive

3.The lyrics of your songs are very emotional; do you write from experience?

Yes. Some bands like to make up stories or let fantasy take the creative lead, while others take inspiration from their own experience. We find that the cathartic impact of music can be more
powerful and honest when it spurs from one’s own deepest feelings. The beauty of using an artistic medium such as music is that, in the length of a song, you can freeze a specific moment into a frame or recall a life changing experience or feeling, and express what it meant for you. It doesn’t have to be explicit – pretty much the other way round. Some things are universal: love, lust, uncertainty… you know.

4. You are originally from Italy, why did you move to London?

Basically we moved to London because there’s only so much you can do in Italy when you sound like we do. There’s no proper underground scene, you can’t sing in English, and you’re never really taken
seriously unless you’ve accomplished something abroad – both by the audience and business execs. It’s kinda silly.

5. And how are you liking England in comparison to Italy?

On a general level it is stimulating to be in an environment made by people who came here from literally all over the world. Hopefully we can contribute in that sense.

6. What do you like best about the UK music scene?

We haven’t been here for a long time yet, but as far as we can tell there’s a completely different approach to the underground scene. We toured England last October as a totally unknown band, and everyone at the venues gave a shot at our music. Of course, like everywhere else,
the whole X-Factor stuff tends to get the spotlight, but you still get the feeling that you have a chance to get what you deserve, whether it’s a larger accomplishment or failing miserably!

7. And what do you like least?

Sometimes you get the feeling that competition is so tough among bands struggling to stand out, that it might damage the overall effort. Everyone thinks they’re the next big thing – fair enough, we’ve heard a number of amazing bands here that would deserve to go big, but cooperation can help more than competition.

8. What would you say is your biggest achievement so far?

Rather than an achievement, I’d call it the best choice – moving over here. We’ve had our share of amazing moments, but like I told you, we needed a radical change from the Italian scene, to start fresh anew.

9. And what do you hope to achieve next?

We’re currently setting the new line up straight. We aim to hit the stage big time, spread our name and support the album.

10. You’re album is called Secrets, tell me a secret…?

I can’t keep a secret. What is yours?

Bio

In an age of music business panic, disposable talent show artists and carbon copy self proclaimed “next big thing” acts, RESANDO decided to take a shot at a life changing move, with a firm belief in their electronics fueled alt rock.

After leaving their hometown of Trento, Italy, and resettling in London, UK, the frontman and founding member Filippo de Asmundis and bass player Michele Ceola completed the line up with French guitarist Yann Marechal and UK native Thomas Mowforth on the drums.
“Settling in a new country and finding the right people to pursue our dream was a gruelling task” says Filippo. “It's never easy to take such a radical decision and leave certaineis, friends and loved ones behind. There have been times of discomfort, but, in all honesty, the supreme force that moved my steps was the passion for music. At the end of the day, I missed being on stage the most”.

RESANDO weren't completely new to the UK rock scene, though. A 10 date tour of England and Wales was organized in late 2010 to celebrate the upcoming debut album, titled Secrets, released by Henley-on-Thames based indie label Copro records. The album is a 9-track electro stab at Depeche Mode meets Nine Inch Nails dynamics. “Copro records has a name for underground metal, which made us the black swan in their roster” says the band. “We've just strived for an international recognition. To stick to an Italian label, to the Italian market, would never be our thing”.

That's how they decided to start over in a new land, even though it would mean to be the last in line, after gaining considerable success at home and sharing the stage with the likes of Placebo and Kraftwerk. “We felt like staying would have been a dead end. If you're confident in the quality of your work and willing to put all of yourself into it, you need to take the challenge. We're one of those bands with a sort of a working class attitude: winning fans one by one at our shows”.
