It would be easy to say that Reset List is talented and funny. They are both of those things. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. Reset List is fresh, original, and unique as well. I had the pleasure of watching them create a show "on the spot" in front of an enthralled audience. Not knowing what is coming next only adds to the humor. The four members of the faux band Reset List improvise a hell of an indie rock concert. The conceit is that they're past their heyday and now encourage fans to shout out the set list with lines like "What's your favorite track off that political album we did?" (Answer at the show I saw: "John Wilkes's Phone Booth.") They're good at deadpan takes and fabulously committed to parodying rock music. Reset List presents an improvised Rock and Roll extravaganza with songs so new they havent been written yet. This Chicago Reader Recommended group has combined the citys music and improv comedy scenes and integrated them into one show, a completely improvised, interactive rock concert. During a Reset List concert everything (including chord progressions, lyrics, harmonies, dance breaks, and all that goes on in between) is created on the spot. Audience requests fuel each song and produce a brand new set list at every show. No song is ever sung twice. Every performance is a personalized choose your own adventure of improvised music and comedy that allows audiences to get in on the action of a rock show and help make the music that THEY want to hear.
Reset List has been churning out earworms since 2009. The duo, comprised of Matt Gottlieb and Missy Moreno, met while studying at the Musical Improv Conservatory at the Second City in Chicago where they engaged in a mutual talent crush of epic proportions. The first time we harmonized together, says Matt, I thought to myself, Oh four-letter-word, were gonna start a band. When their studies ended Matt proposed a union of rock and rolling-on-the-floor, Missy accepted, and Reset List was born.
