Retro Stefson

Retro Stefson

 Reykjavík, Capital Region, ISL

Retro Stefson is the sound of everything that's fun in the world. It's the sound of relaxing at the beach, a big house party, skateboarding, going to the movies, reading comics, New York, Paris, Buenos Aires, Trinidad, Moscow and of course Reykjavík.

In an old classroom in Reykjavík's old downtown children's school there was a not so old teacher devoted to teach children the ways of the musical world. He let them explore the musical regions of the world and let them choose instruments to play, 7 of these children had an exceptional talent though, playing various events for the school, around the town and finally a public debut at the 2006 Iceland Airwaves festival, then 14, 15 and 16 years old. Since then the band has played a big part in the Reykjavík music scene, playing regularly all around the city.

Retro Stefson's music has been described in multiple ways, the words surf, latin, jazz, afro and pop pop up most frequently - with the members hailing from various countries it's no wonder the influences are so many - but let's not get tangled up in genres. The main thing is that the music is fun, youthful and refreshing.

In 2008 Retro Stefson recorded their debut album "Montaña" in Sigur Rós's swimming pool studio, "Sundlaugin", with Benni Hemm Hemm and Árni PlúsEinn of FM Belfast.

October 2010 Retro Stefson released their second album "Kimbabwe" in Iceland and early 2011 in Europe.
