Bio

Hi, my name is Rex. During my days as a trucker, I went by Rambler. I grew up in Missouri, born in St Louis and raised in the hills of Southeast Missouri. We call it SEMO. Anyway, I am nothing more than a former trucker trying to make a new life. I am currently a full time student majoring in Secondary Education, yeah...I want to be a teacher. Hey I figure after almost 13 years on the road dealing with the rough and rowdy seedier types and forging my way through cities like New York, LA, Miami, and Detroit, I might be able to survive being in charge of a classroom full of adolescents.

I started writing songs when I was 14 years old. I come from a family talented in both music and the arts. My mother is a writer, plays piano, and sings. My great grandfather made fiddles. My grandfather and grandmother played music at the local dance halls. My uncle plays and writes songs. I remember being a kid and being so absorbed in the music when my Uncle Ron would play. From every Johny Cash tune to Marty Robbins, Sonny James, and Rick Nelson; I could go on and on, but you get the picture. These performers went on to be my heroes.

I have played in bands off and on, and in my ‘hay-day’ I even payed the bills doing it. I have played in Nashville. Nothing special really just a nice night club there, but it gives me the ability to say, “I have played in Music City” along with oh, about 2 million other starving musicians?

I first learned that my songs made connection with the audience, when I tried my hand in what was called ‘Country Showdown’. The first time was a total disaster, the judges were drunk, and the crowd was hopelessly bored to tears from all 13 performers (I was number 13 by the way). After I finished playing, the judges were throwing paper wads at each other, and the crowd was almost louder than the music, however, when the band members turned to me and said, “Hey man! Don't let these people get to you. Don't quit, your good.” that was the first time I ever had a complement outside of family about my music. So I have been writing ever since, it's the one thing I can turn to.

My songs are perhaps not the next big thing, but they come from the heart and are definitely part of me. Am I a song writer? Well I write songs, but yet have been able to pay the bills doing it. Wouldn't it be grand if I could?
So listen, to a few or all, hope you enjoy and thanks for reading this. Say hello if it's not too much trouble, let me share with you a part of me through my music.
