"MEDIA RELEASE (April 2011): Rezzalp head to UK's Indig02 Arena and France"

Thursday 28 April 2011
MEDIA RELEASE
REZZALP HEAD TO THE UK'S INDIG02 ARENA AND FRANCE

Rezzalp is a band of four siblings: Bridget, Helena, Maryanne and Suzanne Plazzer.

As winners of the international, unsigned artists’ music competition Soundcheck, Rezzalp will head to London and Paris in July 2011 to perform at venues including the IndigO2 Arena on 23 July.

Rezzalp will play several shows in London and Paris from 20 - 31 July 2011.

On 17 February 2011, Rezzalp won the first prize in the Soundcheck Music Competition’s live final at the National Theatre, St Kilda. Rezzalp wowed the crowd and judges with a heart melting performance of their song 'Goodbye'.

The competition was judged by Neighbours star Sam Clark, Australian heavy weight music producer Paul Wiltshire and undercover.com’s Paul Cashmere.

The Soundcheck Music Competition attracted unsigned acts from all over the world. Ten artists from the UK, Australia and Europe battled for the chance to win.

Since Rezzalp’s Soundcheck triumph, they have performed live on Australia’s Channel Ten Logie nominated show The Circle.

Rezzalp recently released their debut album, In My Dreams, and have been touring since September 2010 to great reviews.

"These girls are a new force of music," commented The Blurb music journalist Bridget Barnett.

In My Dreams was the Australian Broadcasting Corporation National's album of the week and their track 'Overboard' was JOY FM's single of the week.

Rezzalp would like to thank all their fans for their support and are excited about their upcoming shows in London and Paris.

"The Preview - CD REVIEW"

The Preview takes you on a musical journey through a cavern of unique styles and brings you out the other end with the feeling you have just been somewhere you have never been before.
It’s a grand feeling.
The first thing you notice about Rezzalp is their brilliant control of the keyboard. The music on this album, is masterful but the smooth vocal and pitched harmonies of these four sisters provide the quantifying complement.
If you like the Queensland outfit George, you will enjoy Rezzalp`. Get out of your commercial comfort zone and take the expedition. It’s hard to single out the tracks but the 5 minute closing number Spiders is the perfect ending to a quality recording.

The Plazzer sisters - Bridget, Helena, Suzanne and Maryanne have been performing together as Rezzalp (yes, it's their surname backwards but pronounced 'razelle') for almost a decade.  Honing their talent over the years, drawing on classical, theatrical and pop influences to produce a unique sound, defined by their four-part harmonies.
In 2006 they were part of the ABC Live and Local concert in Maryborough and a finalist in the ABC's Fresh Air competition, which encourages unsigned musical artists from regional Australia and exposes their work to listeners all around the country.
In My Dreams is their debut album (after a couple of EP's and contribution to other compilation albums) and they'll be touring over the next two months, beginning in their old stomping ground of Western Victoria.
The album is based around Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream, but in writing and developing the songs the girls' own personal stories started to become woven in the stories of love, loss and life.
Lush, theatrical and complex - the Rezzalp sound is full of drama and little instrumental moments of delight (a little violin here, a touch of the piano there), but most importantly connections - with each other as a musical group and as sisters, and with the audience, through emotional and easy to relate to narratives.
Check out their website for details and a glimpse of the music videos they've made - the 'Overboard' clip is a hoot! - ABC RADIO 2010

"Rezzalp - In My Dreams (Album)"

Rezzalp is the collective name for the Plazzer sisters, a Victorian sibling set that have just released In My Dreams - their first long player. They haven’t exactly come out of nowhere; gaining attention in the mid 00’s in a bunch of competitions and appearing as one of the fine acts of last year’s first Naked in the Woodscompilation – a collection of talented (and well chosen) female artists and acts.
The band may well have given themselves their best definition already; describing the sound of Rezzalp as “Pop Theatre”. In My Dreams is indeed very theatrical, and moves between its musical chapters in a whimsical, often dreamy state – creating a product the sisters can be proud of.
For their debut, Rezzalp have certainly assembled a strong ensemble, who – complete with piano, flute, guitars and all sorts of strings – create an instrumentally rich and rewarding listen. Further enhancing the musical talent here are the voices of Helena and Maryanne Plazzer, for whose vocal abilities highlight the album overall. They’re the kind to draw you right into the rich musical world being created by Rezzalp, and even as the disc varies back and forth, the strength does not waver.
The quirky nature of this release is perhaps due to its being based on William Shakespeare’s, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Beginning with the strength of Suzzane Plazzer’s piano on the album’s title track, the album quickly dips into eccentric territory, developing adventurous violin on ‘Perfect Love’ – a track with vocals reminiscent of Kate Miller Heidke and with a kind of sinister quality in its concluding harpsichord sounds.
From here, the album starts to flicker back and forth between the wistful (such as the longing violin on tracks like ‘Goodbye’) and the buoyant pop. Such pop can be found in the upbeat harmonies and vibrancy on ‘Good Morning Helena’, an early standout, which contrasts nicely with the instrumental subtlety on ‘Weary Night’ which follows – a track with little more than simple plucking, leaving only the sisters’ voices to be admired. The joy returns again in ‘Overboard’, another highlight complete with sufficient jazzy piano.
Rezzalp bring everything to closure with a pair of soft moments at the album’s end; ‘Lullaby For Titania’ again returning the poignancy of the group’s vocal harmonies. It’s an apparent simplicity which rounds things out so nicely, leaving listeners with an album that’s bound to have made an impression somewhere amongst its variation. - The Dwarf 2010

"Rezzalp pull out true sister act"

In August 2010, Rezzalp released their debut, independent album In My Dreams, followed by a national tour - which I had the pleasure of attending. In a boutique, almost-hidden, bar on the outskirts of the Sydney CBD, I nestled into a quirky vintage chairs waiting for the show to kick off.
Whilst soaking up the ambiance of this secret bar oasis, the dazzling women of Rezzalp floated in and allowed me few precious minutes before they released their magical music. Dressed in variations of white tutus, flapper dresses and angel wings, the girls were gracious and respectful of each other (despite being sisters!). This was the first time the girls have played in Sydney and they were excited, ready to take on the Melbourne-Sydney rivalry with some self-described ‘pop-theatre’.
The talented sisters of Rezzalp - Bridget, Helena, Maryanne and Suzanne Plazzer - create an escapade into a unique and alluring concept album. Rezzalp described their debut album as intended to be an interpretation of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which instantly struck me as out of the ordinary, but unexpectedly it works. These girls are mystical; they unwrap their hearts and craft beautiful four-part harmonies defining themselves as a unified group however also presenting their individuality, the music allows them to let their personalities shine.
On stage, Rezzalp reveals a quirky close-knit sibling group, living and growing up in each other’s pockets has obviously allowed them to nurture a chic and distinctive music style. These ladies clearly have a sisterly relationship on and off the stage, teasing and bantering amongst themselves with ease. Their debut album In my Dreams is a collection of each sister’s delicate personal interactions of love and life.
On stage, Helena keeps her sisters in check and appears to be the front lady, throwing a few winks and hip shakes to razzle up the audience. As soon as the first song began, I found myself sinking deeper into my chair, hooked on the magical melodies and harmony of Rezzalp.
Highlights of the performance were the catchy ‘Sway’, clearly a crowd favourite with one fan yelling ‘we love you guys’; and ‘Mr Messy’, a reference to a Bridget’s previous boyfriend… who undoubtedly was disapproved of by her sisters. They are first-rate songwriters, touching on emotional songs, soulful songs then rising to tutti-frutti rocking numbers. I should mention not only do these gifted girls croon beautifully, they play a variety of instruments including flute, violin and piano. Watching the girls it is obvious that they are passionate about their music and adore performing together. They giggle and hip swing along in time and frequently smile a nod of approval to each other.
The warm and personable aspects of Rezzalp’s songs, like they were exposing secrets, made this gig memorable and endearing. Razzelp suited the intimate venue, bringing them close to their growing Sydney fan base. Rezzelp have been compared to the Corrs, George and Tori Amos… however I truly believe these girls have hit on something completely matchless. They have a lot of spirit and definitely resonated here in Sydney.
If these glamorous girls hit your town, check them out… they put on a punchy gig. These girls are a new force of music.

"Corr! Rezzalp display vocal range"

Corr! Rezzalp display vocal range

Rezzalp is a sisterly quartet who has been a long time coming. After many years and setbacks (their studio burnt down during Black Saturday) they have released their first album, In My Dreams. It’s meant to be an interpretation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and if you want to take it as such, be my guest. All I know is that it’s quite a good listen.

These girls know their harmonies and use their combined voices to great effect in each and every song. We are thrown into the work with 'In My Dreams' and 'Perfect Love', two very strong songs that really give you a taste of the talent. Other highlights are the upbeat 'Overboard' and the nursery rhyme that is 'Lullaby for Titiana'. The girls’ voices come in at different moments, and then rise to a climax or fall to a dull tone. You can tell by the sound of their voices that they love doing this.

The music is also varied, with a haunting piano and deliberately slow beat to finish the album with the song 'People'. There’s some Spanish guitar, playful drums, and even more playful strings. It really feels like a complete package, a work that was born of pure inspiration and nurtured on adoration for the craft. It may be based on Shakespeare’s play, but that is simply scaffolding around which the girls build their own stories and thoughts. The personal touches really make this a strong first album.

Rezzalp could easily be compared to the Corrs, just with less pop hits and with much, much more soul. The coming together of four amazing voices is a joy to hear. If you are looking for something a little different, then check these sisters out.

"Rezzalp` - Theatrical POP"

They describe their music as Theatrical POP. They have recently been signed by MGM, received recognition in the Top 10 of ‘ABC Fresh Air’, have had airplay across Australia ABC and the band was nominated in the Top 5, in 2003/2004 of the National Music Oz Awards.

When you consider they have only been together for 2 years and already they have an MGM Distribution deal, it could be said that Rezzalp has literally burst onto the scene.

The EP is certainly a mixed can. Some songs are jazzy and could easily be adapted into a Broadway musical such as the song ‘Congratulations’ Susan says ‘Helena’s vocals really set it off as a theatrical type of song.’
Then a completely different song takes over and you think you’ve entered the twilight zone with ‘Spiders’. With this song the girls have attempted to turn the world of the spider into a musical expression. It almost sounds like new age music with its highly sensitive synthesised sound.

Rezzalp is also working on turning the play ‘A Mid Summers Night Dream’ into a sound track for Mescilato Records, who have given them a grant to complete the project. They are turning the scenes into song, creating a musical narrative of the play.

Rezzalp’s music truly speaks for itself. It is definitely one for the collection and I’m eager to see where this band goes in the future. Surely it will be an up and up journey for years to come. The new EP will be released at their independent launch at Manchester Lane on 30th March.

"Rezzalp - Manchester Lane Live Review"

Rezzalp (aka the Plazzer sisters) opened their set unconventionally with a screening of The Power of Positive Thinking, an award-winning short for which the sisters wrote the soundtrack. I’d call it a sharp, if shallow, satire on the self-help guru phenomenon. Three stars…
This was followed by my anticipated favourite Spiders, an enchanting and immersive experience despite some technical hiccups. (“Make some noise…” Maryanne whispered into her microphone, the PA system unfortunately pre-empting her request.) Even so, when these sisters get it right they really get it right. You’d have to be made of asbestos not to be melted by harmonies like this.
Destiny came across as a vehicle for the talents of lead vocalist, youngest sister and major spunk Helena. She might be pretty easy to watch, but the sublime, multi-layered arrangements you’ll find in a great deal of the music mean you really can’t afford to be focussing on any one performer.
The slick instrumental interplay helped lift the more pedestrian selections like Where are you Now? and Animosity, before big sister Maryanne again took the vocals for a feeling performance of the darker piece Cold. Throw Me Away was another surprise highlight, thanks partly to Bridget’s violin work.
The syrupy sweetness of Another First Kiss was just fine by me as long as Helena was singing it. Even more so for the poutiness of Overboard, which segued suddenly into an awesome showcase of the girls’ classical chops.

"The Preview - CD REVIEW"

Well I found the new Rezzalp cd very professionally put together. I thought the first track especially, was seductively classical in the way the piano was used. A very innovative mix of sounds. All the songs are engaging and captivating with perfect vocals and harmonies. As a debut cd, it has the kind of punch that could launch a thousand gigs!. - Andy Shades - Singer/songwriter UK Jan 2006

Bio

Rezzalp is a band of four siblings: Bridget, Helena, Maryanne and Suzanne Plazzer.

They have a distinctive, alternative sound. Their classical, theatrical and pop influences create uniquely layered harmonies that are the essence of their sound.

Rezzalps latest album 'In My Dreams' has defined their style, as Theatrical-Pop.

The band has an uncanny knack for cutting to the core of emotional experiences.

Youd have to be made of asbestos not to be melted by harmonies like this, commented Jesse Shrock from leading Australian street press magazine Beat.

Following the successful national In My Dreams Tour in late 2010, Rezzalp continue the momentum with festival appearances, a Sounds Like Cafe Acoustic Tour series and a tour through London and Paris in July 2011.
