"Rising Artist: R.H."

Entertwine: Could you give us tell us about your musical background?
RH: Yes I started from the bottom now I’m here (“Laughing”) seriously though, I’ve been intrigued with music since elementary school. It all started in fourth grade when the music teacher challenged the class to write a song, Not only did I remix the late Notorious BIG, but I wrote two of my other classmate’s verses and we won. Since that point on, I was addicted to writing and rapping, that was all I did throughout middle school and high school. Dealing with everything going on in my life, I found it to be my escape.
ET: You’re from Philadelphia, PA, yet you’ve lived in Washington DC and Atlanta, GA, correct?
RH: Yea you can say I’m a son of a gypsy. I was born in Philly lived there for the almost two years then moved to Georgia. Since middle school I’ve been back and forth from Atlanta, GA to Washington, DC. I stayed in trouble in school, which made It hard for me to stay rooted in one city.
ET: What is the significance of your stage name?
RH: [RH] is just my first name last name initials. I want to keep my name as genuine as possible.
ET: How would you describe your style to a listener who hasn’t heard any of your releases?
RH: Thought-provoking, honest, original, and edgy. I’m not trying to be anyone else but myself. I am me I don’t put on a front.
ET: What is the recording process like for RHDaBully? Are there particular producers or engineers you regularly work or collaborate with?
RH: Recording for me is the straight to the point. I want to have it so when I go to record a track I use every minute wisely in the studio. I don’t take long on verses and hooks. I’m in and out with as much quality as possible.
When it comes to producers and engineers, I’m not picky; I’ll work with anyone at least once. If your work ethnics are good, then it’s good to go.
ET: What life experiences and events led to the writing and recording of your releases ‘Peelin’, ‘That Work’, and ‘Gangsta Musik’? Could you walk us through the meaning or message behind each track?
RH: “Peelin” This track is a simply about money. Honestly it’s just about being yourself, You don’t have to portray something you’re not to get or have a little money. I’m not saying I’m an angel, I have a past.
“That Work” Is basically giving a rundown of me. It’s like people will see you and judge you solely off of looks, not actually knowing who you are or what you been through, without knowing who are personally.
“Gangsta Musik” Running down streets codes. A lot of artists always say that they are this and that, but Real Gangsters live by codes and structures. Majority of these so called gangsters, don’t have any. I can say real recognize real. I’ve had my run in with the genuine and impostors. So I honestly heard the best and went in on how I was feeling at the time.
Majority of my music is made like that. If the beat catches my attention, I will write to it based off of how I feel at the moment. It’s very rare, that I’ll have a song prewritten and just match it to an instrumental. I feel like for me the delivery comes out better this way.
ET: You’ve described yourself as “determined to be the next big thing” and having a “versatile flow”; how do you plan to market and differentiate yourself from all the other artists that also have music available via the internet?
RH: When In Rome do what the Romans do. I plan on doing what most won’t, to live how most don’t. I plan on doing everything possible to strategize a way to brand myself so everyone will know of me or want to get to know me. I’m actually doing what most people don’t do anymore, which is going out in the streets passing my music out. Going out to clubs, and events, networking with a number of people. I’m always networking! If I have to do the grunt work to get to where I want to go, I’m doing it no questions asked.
ET: What do the remaining months of 2014 hold in store for RH?
RH: The remainder of 2014 will involve performances, grinding and more grinding. I am just preparing myself for 2015. - Jacqueline Cassell
