Rian Adkinson — This Augusta-born singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist celebrates the release of his new LP, Reckoner, this week, as well as a homecoming show of sorts after touring throughout the fall. Adkinson works roughly in the pop-rock mold, although his unusual elocution and penchant for more cerebral progressive and Brit rock provides a harder and more dynamic edge to his tunes, particularly with a full band in tow (not unlike a less cookie-cutter Howie Day). Opening the show is Joel Summer, former frontman of the Charleston rock groups Thomas Elite and Your Regional Airport. K. Petersen

The Colour Sound — The name changes but the song and sound remains the same for Rian Adkinson. Now performing as The Colour Sound, Adkinson and company present themselves as a swirling mixture of Crowded House and Radiohead, combining melodic atmosphere with soaring lyrical generalities that cover the standard topics of love and relationships. It’s the kind of innocuous, likeable music that your friends post to Facebook after hearing it in the background of a Grey’s Anatomy episode, convinced they’re turning you on to something cool. Rian Adkinson & the Colour Sound — The Atlanta-based Adkinson has been writing and recording at a breathtaking speed over quite a few years, and this year is no exception: His latest full-length, 1984, was recently released and is the first to feature his new backing band, The Colour Sound. The group still traffics in the singer-songwriter’s trademark sound, which throws the emotionally sincere guy with the acoustic guitar model and throws it against the wall, adding elements of Brit-rock, smooth R&B and light electronic flourishes while still managing to evince a AAA radio-friendly sound.
