Bio

Brazilian violinist Ricardo Herz just released his fourth album, Aqui é o meu lá, with a handful of new songs of his own where the swing, groove and sexy improvisation prevail.

Herz reinvented the way a violin is played. His technique makes the instrument sound like an accordion and, sometimes, like a rabeca making it perfect to play Brazilian grooves such as the forró and choro. Herz's main influences are Dominguinhos, Luiz Gonzaga, Gismonti and Jacob do Bandolim.

Having lived in Paris for 9 years, Herz used this period to enhance his technique with jazz master Didier Lockwood, to improvise with north-african rhythms such as the chabi and to travel the world with his music: Herz has played in major festivals and venues around the world, from Malaysia to Mexico, from Israel to Denmark, including South America and Caribbean in between.

This year marks his return to homeland Brazil. To celebrate, Ricardo released Aqui é o meu lá, with fellows Pedro Ito (drums and percussion) and Michi Ruzitschka (7-string guitar). This album truly represents what Herz lived through in the last 10 years: there are forrós, choros, chamames, ballads and, most importantly, incredible solos, unpredictable beats and true musical passion.
