"CD Review"

Ricco McAdory has a love for the traditional stylings of the gospel music genre and his EPK, Nobody Like Jesus, is clear evidence of his talent to present the gospel in a powerful and convincing way. “I Believe”, a toe-tapping cut about having faith in God, will certainly bring the believing Christian through. The tune, which done live, is certain to necessitate hand-clapping and moving out of your seat. He slows it down with soothing sounds of “I’ve Decided”. It’s a soulful yet reverent track about his determination to follow the Lord. Written by the artist, as are all the tracks on Nobody Like Jesus, “I’ve Decided” is a focused and mellow song.

In “Good To Me”, Ricco offers a song of thanksgiving over an up-tempo, classic-sounding track. It’s also a feel-good tune with a positive message. He throws in the new with the old by using a vocorder for a contemporary splash of color. “You Rescued Me” will certainly bring back memories to those who know they’ve been saved by God’s grace. A soprano vocalist shares the mic with McAdory on the cut which sizzles with awesome instrumentation making this an exciting track.

The lyrics of “All I Need”, another track on Nobody Like Jesus, center around one heartfelt plea to the Lord. It’s a soothing, relaxing track with a dose of gratitude sprinkled in. Those who have been tempted to give up will be inspired by the words of “I’m Going To Make It”. Ricco sings this one with conviction and fervor.

Bio

Ricco McAdory is simply a miracle. The blessed songwriter and vocalist, with a gifting towards traditional and quartet gospel music, has a calling to declare the word of God through song. Although he’s been influenced musically by artists such as John P. Kee, The Williams Brothers and The Canton Spirituals, Ricco McAdory’s ministry is one of a kind. His love and fondness for “good ole time” gospel music is clearly apparent on his 6-track EPK entitled Nobody Like Jesus.

For McAdory, his amazing story begins in Birmingham, AL. A place he still calls home, the church has always been a part of his life. But even more than that, God has always been a part of his life. As a matter of fact, there’s really no logical reason why Ricco McAdory should even be here. Prior to Ricco’s birth, his mother, after delivering two children, had a tubal ligation, an operation that disables a woman’s ability to have children. In spite of that, Ricco McAdory, nine years later, was born, full-term, and ever since that time, he’s known that God had a plan for his life.

The son of a preacher also knew he had a gifting for music. At the age of five, he began his love affair with melodies by learning the piano. One Sunday while “messing around” on the piano at church, his mother heard him and realized he had something special. At that moment, she searched for musicians that could sow into his musical gifting. Two church musicians ended up teaching him, each offering him something different, but important to the growth of what would end up being his future musical career. That didn’t stop him from becoming discouraged at times and tempted to give up on music. “My mother would not allow me to give up,” says Ricco. “Although she allowed my siblings to concentrate on other things, she wouldn’t let me desert the music.”

The gifting became a ministry for him when he joined the Navy in 2000. In 2003, he was deployed shortly after learning that his wife was pregnant. While deployed, he had an encounter with God that truly changed his life. He was called to ministry, through a prophetic dream, and received an assurance that God would take care of his home life while he was away. In spite of being deployed at sea, he found himself declaring that he would be there at the birth of his first child – although his orders were just the opposite. Through divine intervention, he was able to be there at the hospital to witness first-hand the birth of his son.

Also during this journey, songs started “coming” to him. He wrote, without the help of a keyboard, many of the songs that would become his first project. Although it didn’t garner much success, Wait On God was a learning experience for him, an education in the music industry. Another lesson in the music industry came at the Victory in Praise Seminar, hosted by gospel icon John P. Kee. McAdory attended the event, had the opportunity to sing and received rave reviews from Kee himself. The experience served as an inspiration for the singer and songwriter and spurred the completion of his second effort, Nobody Like Jesus.

The six-song EPK is a testament to the faithfulness of God and the growth of Ricco McAdory as an artist. Songs like “I Believe” and “I’ve Decided” display his unwavering faith in God while tracks like “You Rescued Me” and “Good To Me” are songs of gratitude. The producer, musician and songwriter showcases a mastery of gospel music and delivers heartfelt songs with a God-centered message on the CD. Now a Preacher and Associate minister at Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Bessemer, AL, Ricco McAdory has much to bring to the body of Christ.
