RICHARD TREVOR BASSETT is an award winning Songwriter, President of Renascent Music Publishing and founder of the Bermuda Songwriters' Association (Bermuda's first Songwriters' Association). He resides in Bermuda and writes songs for Recording Artists, Artist Managers, Music Supervisors and Music Producers.

Richard is a member of NARAS (New York Chapter) and he is affiliated with SOCAN (Performing Rights Society of Canada) as both a Songwriter and Music Publisher.

It was in college that Richard began writing Pop, R&B and Reggae songs using local Canadian studios and often using friends to help with background vocals and instrumental tracks. After moving back to Bermuda in 1988, he then took his first trips to Los Angeles and joined the National Academy of Songwriters and the Los Angeles Songwriters Showcase; two of the largest Songwriters Associations on the west coast. After several more trips to the west coast, Richard made a commitment to establish Bermuda's first Songwriters Association; and with assisstance from John & JoAnn Braheny, the Bermuda Songwriters Association (BSA) was formed. From 1994 until 1997 BSA hosted workshop events featuring Pat Pattison (Berklee College Of Music), Barbara Jordan (Heavy Hitters Music) , Ted Lowe (Epic Records), Michael Laskow (TAXI) & Janice Roeg (Legend Artists Management).

In the year 2000, Richard & writing partner Michael Spencer-Arscott licensed 30 tracks of music to MTV for their network drama 'MTV Undressed'.

In 2001, Richard & Michael composed and scored the Errol Williams docu-drama 'When Voices Rise' for the Bermuda International Film Festival.

Renascent Music writers Richard & Michael were informed in January 2005 that they were finalists in the 2004 International Songwriting Competition with the Pop/Country song 'I Like It Like That (Tic Tac Toe)'. With over 11,000 entries in this year's competition, this achievement marks a milestone in their writing careers.

Richard continues to work with his writing partners to place songs with Recording Artists and in Film/TV projects.

Lyrics

I Like It Like That (Tic Tac Toe)

Written By: Richard Bassett, Michael Spencer-Arscott

Verse 1:
I was watching you
You were watching me
We came together
And shocked your family
They were hoping for a
Cookie-cutter-kind of girl
NOT ME
I rocked everybody’s world
I don’t come with a money back guarantee
I can’t give you everything from A to Z
When it comes to loving you’re my VIP
Martha Stewart’s got nothing on me

Chorus:
When you Tic Tac Toe
On my Oh Oh No
I reach a state of hypertension
Then you do me right
And you take all night
I like a man who takes direction
And did I mention
I like it like that
I like it like that

Verse 2:
I can’t handle those
Monday blues that your
Mother leaves when she
Tries to change me for you
I wasn’t blessed with a need to constantly clean
AND I
Can’t use a sewing machine
I don’t want to play BINGO on Tuesday nights
I would rather watch a heavy weight title fight
All I need is for people to treat me right
Tell your Mom we’re gonna be alright

Chorus

Bridge:
I'm a girl you just can't forget
What you see is what you get
I'm a rockin stick of dynamite
Just hold on tight
Cause I can go all night

Don't Try To Push The River

Written By: Richard Bassett

Verse 1:
She was standing by his grave side
As they lowered him from sight
She was thinking about his life time
Of working day and night
Then her eyes turned up to heaven
And she couldn't help but think
God what have you done to me

'What A Friend We Have In Jesus'
Was the hymn they sang that day
Friends and family came to hold her
And then they drove away
As she sat among the flowers
She came across a note

Pre-Chorus:
Tucked in a bunch of daiseys
Were words that made her tremble
Words that made her understand

Chorus:
Don't try to push the river
All you get is wet
Don't try to hurry God along
If he's not ready yet
Just love your life the best you can
Have faith in God and his great plan
Don't try to push the river
Just hold on
Just hold on

Verse 2:
He was employee of the quarter
Three quarters in a row
Sold his soul to old Jack Daniels
And today they let him go
He cleared his desk and left the building
Made his way to Quincy's Bar
Paid his tab and walked away

Now he's standing on a roof top
Ten stories from the ground
Waiting for the perfect moment
To let it all come down
He stretched his arms right up to heaven
As the tears rolled down his face

Pre-Chorus:
Then like a choir of angels
He hears children signing
And his life is forever changed

Chorus

Chorus (out)

Let's Pretend

Verse 1:
The candles are burning low
And I might as well be eating alone tonight
Cause you're just talkin on your new phone
And don't look me in the eye
What if we started fresh tonight
And went back in time
When everything I had to give was yours
And you were all mine

Chorus:
Let's Pretend I just caught your eye
And your look gives me butterflies
Let's Pretend like it's our first date
Just you and me with so much to say
Let's Pretend we believe in happy endings
And soon we won't be pretending ...soon we won't be pretending anymore

Verse 2:
I wanna hang on every word you say
Instead of just hangin' on
Were more than a habit, I’m tired of just gettin' by
I wanna get it on
What if I ask about your day
and really mean it
Hold my hand, let's dance real slow
And really feel it

Chorus:
Let's Pretend I just caught your eye
And your look gives me butterflies
Let's Pretend like it's our first date
Just you and me with so much to say
Let's Pretend we believe in happy endings
And soon we won't be pretending ...soon we won't be pretending

Bridge:
Baby, we can end tonight, or we can begin again

Chorus:
Let's Pretend I just caught your eye
And your look gives me butterflies
Let's Pretend like it's our first date
Just you and me with so much to say
Let's Pretend we believe in happy endings
And soon we won't be pretending ...soon we won't be pretending

Let's Pretend we believe in happy endings
Soon we won't be pretending ...soon we won't be pretending

The candles are burning low
Come on now, let’s make it an early night
