Bio

RICHARD TREVOR BASSETT is an award winning Songwriter, President of Renascent Music Publishing and founder of the Bermuda Songwriters' Association (Bermuda's first Songwriters' Association). He resides in Bermuda and writes songs for Recording Artists, Artist Managers, Music Supervisors and Music Producers.

Richard is a member of NARAS (New York Chapter) and he is affiliated with SOCAN (Performing Rights Society of Canada) as both a Songwriter and Music Publisher.

It was in college that Richard began writing Pop, R&B and Reggae songs using local Canadian studios and often using friends to help with background vocals and instrumental tracks. After moving back to Bermuda in 1988, he then took his first trips to Los Angeles and joined the National Academy of Songwriters and the Los Angeles Songwriters Showcase; two of the largest Songwriters Associations on the west coast. After several more trips to the west coast, Richard made a commitment to establish Bermuda's first Songwriters Association; and with assisstance from John & JoAnn Braheny, the Bermuda Songwriters Association (BSA) was formed. From 1994 until 1997 BSA hosted workshop events featuring Pat Pattison (Berklee College Of Music), Barbara Jordan (Heavy Hitters Music) , Ted Lowe (Epic Records), Michael Laskow (TAXI) & Janice Roeg (Legend Artists Management).

In the year 2000, Richard & writing partner Michael Spencer-Arscott licensed 30 tracks of music to MTV for their network drama 'MTV Undressed'.

In 2001, Richard & Michael composed and scored the Errol Williams docu-drama 'When Voices Rise' for the Bermuda International Film Festival.

Renascent Music writers Richard & Michael were informed in January 2005 that they were finalists in the 2004 International Songwriting Competition with the Pop/Country song 'I Like It Like That (Tic Tac Toe)'. With over 11,000 entries in this year's competition, this achievement marks a milestone in their writing careers.

Richard continues to work with his writing partners to place songs with Recording Artists and in Film/TV projects.
