Bio

While most bands from Orange County built up a hardcore following though screamo-punk and emo-pop, Richard Bivens and Foreign Press have stayed loyal to their combination of rock and blues infused, left leaning, rock and roll.

As their name suggests, Bivens is the principle singer/songwriter, with Foreign Press helping to emphasize the depth and dynamics of the songs, which are written in the "untrustworthy narrator" style popularized by Randy Newman and the Rolling Stones. The protagonists in his songs range from delusional to deviant, as they discuss their travails in a way that somehow comes across as endearing. The music comes alive through an intense combination of determination and showmanship reminiscent of the band's rock and soul icons of yesteryear.

The band recorded a demo in October '05 and quickly created a Myspace buzz (www.myspace.com/richardbivens) amongst both the indie-rock and mainstream communites.

Their debut EP, "Absolute Beginners", scheduled for an April 28th release, was recorded in San Francisco @ 1 Mississippi from February 18-22, and produced by Tony Leong, a bay area concert promoter working for The Independent club in San Francisco.
