"Show Review"

Next on the bill was Richard Duke. He was fantastic — and considering his deep rooted folk influences (Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Dave van Ronk), it is not surprising that he is quickly building a presence on my last.fm charts. Richard told stories of hitchhiking cross country with crazy truckers ("You keep talking, I keep driving"), and played a song which he wrote for his alarm clock. - Jen Pelly

Bio

Richard was born in a bright read balloon at the very bottom of the ocean. It took nineteen years for the balloon to slowly float to the surface, where it washed up on the shores of New Jersey. Immediately Richard walked to the nearest pawn shop (he thinks it was Century’s Pawn and Fast Cash Plus, but he doesn’t really remember, as he was still getting his footing on land) and bought a mediocre acoustic fender, which he never really liked. Over the past six years, Richard has spent a lot of time learning the general etiquette and social cues necessary to get by in the 21st century, a lot of time walking around in aimless but neatly cocentric circles, and even more time playing said fender. After self-releasing his debut EP ‘Back Face Front Footing” in march of 2008 (he thinks), he has been wandering the country playing in coffeeshops, dive bars, and small arenas (sort of 20 person capacity little hole in the wall arenas). If you would like him to play near you, email him at info@richardduke.net . He tends to forget to update his SonicBids Calendar, so if you want to know where he is playing (or has played), check on JamBase or Myspace.
