Lyrics

Colder Than December

Written By: Richard Hughes

Outside a songbird sings his first song of the day
And a newborn ray of sun shines through my windowpane
It's a silent Sunday morn, the kind made for sleepin in
But the breeze blowin through this room feels like a chillin wind

And it's COLDER THAN DECEMBER, though I know it's only fall
It feels more like winter each night that you don't call
An extra blanket on my bed, it ain't near enough
Cause it's COLDER THAN DECEMBER here without your love

Summer's come and gone and southbound birds take flight
You can feel the weather changin with the chill that fills the night
And the clouds are rollin in as the season dissapears
Givin' way to shorter days and that lonesome time of year

And it's COLDER THAN DECEMBER, though I know it's only fall
It feels more like winter each night that you don't call
An extra blanket on my bed, it ain't near enough
Cause it's COLDER THAN DECEMBER here without your love

Outside a songbird sings...

Down On Music Row

Written By: Richard Hughes

The song I thought was finished last night still needs a little work
There's a line or two that just ain't right
I pour an instant cup of coffee to help me stay alert
And get ready for another long rewritin night

For a songsmith they say Nashville is the place you gotta be
Every waiter is a writer in this town
But it's been more than a year now, since I moved down to Tennesee
Sometimes I feel like just another dreamer hangin round

Cause there's just so many spaces on the charts
And for every hit there's a million broken hearts
What I'd give to hear my songs plain on the radio
But tonight I'm down, DOWN ON MUSIC ROW

The ghosts of all the great ones haunt these music city streets
The stories that you hear can blow your mind
But the business side of town can be cold as Sixteenth Avenue concrete
An open door can sure be hard to find

(repeat chorus)

(Bridge) These kind of moods never last too long
And who knows, maybe this will be the song

(repeat chorus)

My Baby Left With My Best Friend

Written By: Richard Hughes

MY BABY LEFT WITH MY BEST FRIEND

Sittin on this barstool poundin down a beer doin my best tryin to forget
I couldn't tell you just how long I've been here, but I can tell you I ain't leavin yet
She was my only baby, I thought he was my pal, but that only goes to show how much I knew
He turned out to be a Judas and she's a Jesibel, lord what am I supposed to do

Cause my baby left with my best friend and I think it's a sin
Who's gonna drive me home when I get in the shape that I get in
Whose gonna be my pool partner, high five me when we win
My baby left with my best friend and lord do I miss him

I'm gonna miss my baby at least I think I will, then again things ain't been good for quite a while
You could say we were on a roll but we were rollin straight down hill fightin like it was goin out of style
No need to worry 'bout me I'm gonna be alright, she was out of mind quick as she went out of sight
But there is one thing that's botherin me weighin heavy on my mind, whose gonna bowl with me on Friday night

(Repeat Chorus)
