"8/10 Album Review"

"8 out of 10 This...caught my attention as soon as it started. It is the culmination of two years of hard work, originally conceived as an acoustic album. It was completed in 2006, but was then reworked, re-recorded with "an unsuspecting drummer and a brilliant bassist" as well as some other key people. The result is a very well crafted album of 11 personal songs of pain and hope. The title track is a confident and well realised pop song; in contrast "Holding Out" is a great funk/rock track with a nifty little acoustic solo and showcases an impressive vocal range. The style is gentle acoustic rock, not a challenging listen but also it never descends into bedroom muse predictability though... Richard has a striking voice and is a talented guitarist, making this an album that I know will grow and grow on me." Paul Kerslake @ CrossRhythms.co.uk - CrossRhythms.co.uk

Bio

Singing from a real life story book based on people he's met, observations, and real life experiences, with a voice that is both warm and intimate, making his songs uniquely compelling, helping to
provide even the most cynical listener with more catchy musical fodder than you can shake a stick at.

Richard’s live performances are engaging with a positive energy infusing the audience with songs that are effortlessly upbeat, irrespective of subject matter, with influences ranging from the Eagles, Shawn Mullins through to Peter Bradley Adams (formerly of Eastmountainsouth).

Available as a solo acoustic act, duo with keyboardist/accordionist and harmony vocalist, and full band format (with some excellent seasoned professionals) there's the flexibility to perform at intimate venues through to a complete stage set up.

Previous featured live performances have included the Greenbelt Festival, Loudwater Festival, WACstock, Windsor Arts Centre, Norden Farm, Kingston's Grey Horse, as well as a host of pubs and clubs in the Greater London and South East area.

The Story So Far…
Born in Windsor and force fed Cliff Richard and Dire Straits on ridiculously long car journey’s with his parents and 4 siblings on their yearly holidays in a clapped out old Citroen it wasn’t until Richards’ early teens that he picked up the guitar for the first time with the intention of impressing girls.

The impressing girls never quite happened and the longer he spent on the guitar, the more his fingers hurt but, the better the songs got. Failed piano lessons behind him, and a career in his church’s junior choir cut short by his voice breaking, Richard had found his place sat behind an acoustic guitar.

Cutting his teeth on Open Mic nights, and forays into the London music scene and playing more cover songs in local pubs than a musician trying to be ‘original’ would have liked, the funds were raised to record the studio album Beautiful Car Wreck.

From the opening track Beautiful Car Wreck, a song about a failed relationship and it’s similarities to a car wreck, through to the closing track of My Town, it’s an album of catchy choruses, hook filled harmonies, genuine lyrics, and a voice that has a warmth and intimacy that makes these songs uniquely compelling. This can be heard in any of Richard’s live performances with the songs making you sit up and listen even in the loudest of venues.
