Bio
Born to two parents of different ethnic backgrounds, Boston, MA born and raised Richard Boswell better known as Rich 5 was exposed to different forms of music at an early age. His mother of Jamaican descent exposed him to Reggae and Calypso, while his father born in the Southern States exposed him to Soul, Jazz, and Blues. With all these different forms of music being played in the household, it was only natural that Rich 5 would venture into some aspect of the music world, and he did this by becoming a DJ.
While deejaying house parties and college parties alike, he realized he wanted to do more in Hip Hop than just play the music that he heard, he wanted to create it as well. Using the money saved up from doing parties and an after school job, Rich 5 bought his first beat machine, an EMU SP1200. Being influenced by the Golden Era Hip Hop producers such as Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Large Professor and Marley Marl, Rich 5 started crafting his own beats.
Taking numerous trips back and forth from Boston to NY to dig, Rich 5 amassed his collection of Soul, Jazz, Reggae, Rock, Classical, and Blues records to use as his foundations for his music productions. From there as technology progressed, he moved on to using the Akai MPC3000 to aid further in his music creations.
Utilizing the deep rich sounds of the 60's and 70's formulated into loops, kicks, snares, and basslines, Rich 5 aims to create hard hitting underground Hip Hop with that over-ground appeal, ready for the masses to experience and enjoy!
