The best kept secret in music
Press
"Yes, there’s strength in numbers, as is proven by the newborn Richmond Afrobeat Movement, which somehow packs about a dozen musicians onto the stage at Bogart’s Back Room for a Wednesday-night residency. They huddle together and protect themselves on that march to the sea with flailing trombones, Latin percussion and political commentary. And we hope they make it, they and all the rest, because if not, the beach will be a lonely place." - Style Weekly. (Feb 14, 2007)

Bio
Using music as its weapon, the Richmond Afrobeat Movement carries the torch of the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. Combining funk, latin, soul, jazz, high-life, and traditional African music with political and social awareness, the R.A.M. preaches for revolution through its music. With sometimes as many as 15 members on stage, they create an undulating groove, which carries an unstoppable horn section. The term “movement” applies in many ways: to the non-stop energy created physically, sonically, and visually, a group of people working together to advance their shared political, social, and artistic ideas, the principal division of a longer musical work, self sufficient in terms of key, tempo, and structure, and is also reference to the moving parts of a mechanism. Be that as it may, the R.A.M. is committed to putting on the best possible performance it can to as broad of an audience as it can.
