Twist of Lime

Written By: Jeff Caron

Friday morning, it feels like night.
Alarm clock wakes me before the light.
These cold winter mornings, it’s hard to get outta bed.
I’m dreaming of a sunny place where I can clear my head.

It’s the end of the week - I’m tired, I’m beat.
I can’t wait to get off of my feet.
At times like these, I just need a little sunshine
Way down in the Keys with a drink and a twist of lime.

So I’m down here on the beach with my feet in the sand,
An Island cutie on my lap, a Corona in my hand.
I’m chillin’ like a villain in this Jimmy Buffett state of mind.
I turn the radio on, and I’ve got no cares.
And the smell of fresh coconut fills the air.
Ain’t it funny how your work and worries can stop on a dime?
Yeah, I’ll take my life to go with a twist of lime.

Last night I played in some Nashville bar.
The owner asked, “What’s with that rockin’ guitar?
In here the folks like to hear the old Hank Senior clones,
Or songs by Waylon, Willie, Merle and George Jones.”

I said, “I’ve always liked ‘A Boy Named Sue,’
Along with Kenny, Keith and George Strait too.
But crank up some old Bon Jovi any time,
‘Cause I like my country to rock with a twist of lime.”

Yeah, I like my music in an edgy way
Like those dual guitars that the Eagles play.
I like the sweet soft southern sound of a steel guitar.
I like the bass drum to put a hole in your soul;
Sometimes a little more rock and just a tad less roll.
I like my Garth, Poison, Buffett with a little bit of Patsy Cline.
Yeah, I like my country rockin’ with a twist of lime.

Now I’m down here on the beach with my feet in the sand,
An Island cutie on my lap, a Corona in my hand.
I’m chillin’ like a villain in this Jimmy Buffett state of mind.
There’s a tropical beat coming from the pier,
And the smell of boiling lobsters fills the air.
Ain’t it funny how your work and worries can stop on a dime?
Yeah, I’ll take my life straight up with a twist of lime.
I’m having the time of my life with a twist of lime.
