Bio
Songs inspired by life (and death).
Rick married his "Rainbowmaker". His sister Amy, with two daughters, is definitely "Not a Baby" anymore and the recent death of his Iraqi War vet brother made him cry "Like a Baby".
The Rick Edward Melchor sound features elements of folk, rock, country and blues, appealing especially to fans of the current AAA or New Country formats. Possessing a strong voice that spans over two octaves, Rick also mixes in some gritty, blue-eyed soul with an occasional twang.
Besides vocals, Rick plays acoustic and electric guitars, bass and keyboards, while dabbling in other stringed instruments.
Rick began singing, playing and writing songs at age eleven. Passing for older, he began performing in clubs when he was sixteen. He has gigged as a solo act (including appearances as Rick Edwards), a duo (with longtime best friend Scott Dietrick) and in bands (most notably Virginia Beach's still-active "Gangsters of Love"), making music in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and a lone appearance at The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN.
Rick has opened for Peaches and Herb (weird, yes)and sang backup for award winning, best-selling Country artist, Hal Ketchum.
Now performing part-time in the Richmond and Hampton Roads areas of Virginia, and having no problem passing for at least 21, Rick is once again focusing on songwriting and recording with new inspiration (eight and fiveyear-old daughters) and continued/renewed enthusiasm.
Rick is a member of BMI (songwriting and publishing) and NSAI.
