Biography

Describing Ricks music with just a few adjectives is a tough task because it comes at you from so many directions. His lyrics strike you first with their penetrating honesty about life and love and the world we live in. When you step back and look at it deeper you realize you are also being drawn in by his beautiful, melodic and frequently “edgy” melodies, and Rick's voice is as versatile as his songs... sensitive to powerful. Originally from Portsmouth, Ohio, Rick came to Nashville to pursue his love, and it didn't take long before he was drawing attention from all the major record labels in town and would sign a deal with Steven Spielberg's company "Dreamworks".. and begin recording an album with legendary record producer James Stroud.. As a songwriter Rick struck gold when superstar Tim McGraw took his song "Something Like That" (the bbq stain song) to 1 and broke "billboards" record for most consecutive weeks at 1 with 6 weeks in a row ..and to this day continues to be a main stay on radio.. and then Martina McBride topped the charts with his power ballad "Where Would You Be".. Rick has had songs recorded by a wide range of artist from classic country like Earl Thomas Conley and Eddie Raven to new country like Montgomery/Gentry, Julianne Hough, Jason Michael Carroll, Sarah Darling and Rio Grande.. " Most of my musical influences have been singer/songwriters and who i am as an artist has always been defined through my songwriting... “When I put my first word to that first melody I was hooked.(says ferrell) With just a passing listen to Ricks songs you can hear why. His music is so lyrically honest he pulls you in without ever knowing it is happening to you. You just keep listening...
