"New album even stronger"

"Rick Garvin returns with his second project “The Family of Man” following the first solo album “Evolution” which has achieved a high interest from the audience. And one wants to say that Rick Garvin’s new release is an even stronger work than his debut CD.

The language of Rick Garvin’s music is very simple and at the same time it is breathtaking in the right way. The artist plays very melodious Americana country/folk guitar compositions and at first impression sings easy songs. But their special charm is in the deep sincerity of the artist’s performing and his laconic and very precise instrumental accompaniments.

Some beautiful artists help Rick Garvin to record this project. I’d like to point out the expressive guitar of an outstanding player Wendell Ferguson among them.

What does Rick Garvin sing about? His songs are about relationships between people and loved ones, friends and strangers, people and their society and even relationships with our planet. His newest album “The Family of Man” is indeed worth a listening. This is the music from the very roots."

"CBC Radio Canada"

"Evolution" is at once the title of the first solo album by singer/songwriter Rick Garvin and an apt description of the changes in his sound as he has moved from region to region and band to band. In 2008, Garvin's music shifts easily - and ear-pleasingly- from folk to swing to reggae to ska. A highly recommended debut. - Mark Rheaume - CBC Radio Canada - none

"PBS 106-7 FM Melbourne, Australia"

" Again you have hit the mark with a "STUNNING" cd, faultless and engaging. Story telling at its best in a myriad of styles. Rick for me you have certainly followed up with a gem of a album. Here at PBS 106-7 FM, www.pbsfm.org.au , we are certainly going to love to play this album as we did "Evolution". You write about relationships and this cd will go a long way to build even more relationships with our listeners... Once again Rick thank-you for your stunning music and for generously sending us this cd. All the best and take care.... regards Peter Merrett PBS 106-7 FM Melbourne, Australia. "
From 2008:
"I have just received your CD "Evolution", through Radiodirectx. Glad it did as we really love your blend of roots, swing, country and folk. All married into a gumbo of just good down home fun, no pretensions just good time music. Gotta love the feel and the marriage of styles, this CD does it for us. The choice of material backed up with a band that swings rather than play sound like computers adds to every element of this CD. ... We love this CD so as to making a choice where to allocate to was extremely easy." Peter Merrett - PBS 106.7FM, Melbourne Australia

"Many Sincere Thanks for the CD" Evolution " that you sent us recently. We have enjoyed it immensly, and have added tracks from it to our playlists. Your presentation of music, inside the style and personality reflected in the tracks is very refreshing. Keep it up."

For 25 years Rick has been observing people and writing about them, from the heights of joy to the depths of despair, always with a positive and wry take on the foibles of people being people. Writing in a variety of acoustic styles including folk, country, Latin, blues and African, he brings the large and small issues of life to life.

“It was our pleasure to have you play for us. You sounded great.” Darla Sawatsky, Bookings Director - Tongue On the Post Festival 2010 and Medicine Hat Folk Music Club.

2011 Calgary Folk Festival Songwriters contest finalist.

We are a widely variable acoustic presentation, not "over-the-top" but entertaining and sometimes thought-provoking (some songs are just for fun!). Smooth vocals and harmonies, and the hand drums add an effective element, even on the swing tunes. We connect with the audience and bring them into the stories behind the songs for a more satisfying live experience. We can appear as a solo or duo depending on your needs.
