"Saint Raymond gig, Manchester"

Shortly after, Rick Kevil arrived on stage. I think it's safe to say anybody in the audience who didn't know him before, will remember him this morning. The indie-rocker played all original songs showing his range of skills. His songs were instantly likeable and his vocals come across really well on stage. He was a pleasant surprise to anyone waiting for Saint Raymond and a showcase of pure talent. - FashionRider.com

"Review: Saint Raymond + Joel Baker + Rick Kevill + Laamb at Sound Control, Manchester (3/10/13)"

Next up was Manchester singer/songwriter, Rick Kevill, who was greeted with a very warm reception from the crowd all the way through his set. Just on the heels of releasing his first release, the This Love EP, which is sure to open up many doors for him. His set was varied, though it mainly consisted of him and his electric guitar, but he did also pull out the old piano skills, for song Ghost, it just made his set even more intimate and it was very engaging to watch.

He writes from a place of honesty and it really shines through in his live set. He is a great musician and songwriter who is sure to go far, his music has some resemblance to that of fellow Manchester singer/songwriter Guy Connor, in my opinion, but both are equally fantastic and have that something special. Kevill is first and foremost a storyteller, along with his honey toned vocals and the strong, sometimes bluesy, melodies of his music, he is unstoppable. A wave of applause and cheers overwhelmed the room as his final song reaches it’s close, the crowd loved every minute of it. - Charlottle | Bitter Sweet Symphonies

"Rick Kevill Origin: Manchester Genre: Singer/Songwriter"

Mancunian Rick Kevill music is a departure for a UK artist. His music is very country-esque capturing subtle hints of Blues. His single Let It Start is a fine example of this.

Having had a presence at SXSW this year, Rick has been meeting up with a variety of producers to capture his sound for his debut EP ‘This Love’ which he is just putting the finishing touches to in the studio.

He started playing the guitar from a young age, and was inspired by the likes of Sterophonics, Muse, Radiohead and Coldplay to write his own songs, which he says are written very much from the heart.

He would describe himself as honest, soulful and emotional and you would tend to agree when listening to his music. Rick gives a very heartfelt performance to all of his songs, and he definitely a UK artist you will want to watch.

Rick debuted his first music video earlier this year, the spiritual and uplifting song ‘By The River’. The video is an excellently directed atmospheric story complementing the lyrics perfectly, again capturing the ‘American’ sound. Check it out here and be sure to follow Rick’s exciting adventure when he debuts ‘This Love’ imminently. - A Soulful Sound

"Talented Flixton musician attracts US acclaim"

FLIXTON singer songwriter Rick Kevill may only just be starting out in music, but this affable 23-year-old is already attracting acclaim from across “the pond” and he’s also landed a slot at one of the UK’s top pop festivals.

After seeing him perform at the South By South West music festival in America in March an industry big wig proclaimed: “There must be something in the water in Manchester” after listening to a performance of his song, By The River.

The video can be viewed on youtube and if you watch it you’ll be able to see what all the fuss is about.

Next month Rick is performing at another prestigious live gig, Kendal Calling, where he’ll be sharing the bill with Primal Scream, no less.

He said: “Just to be on the same line-up as them is amazing. it’s really exciting and that’s definitely a highlight of my whole life so far. Playing at that festival will be great.”

Musically, Rick is influenced by the likes of Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Coldplay and The National.

He’s an electrician by trade and has left his day job on hold to pursue a career in music. Rick hopes what he’s doing will inspire others to follow suit.

Rick said: “There’s a lot of people I know who write music and they never take the risk. i’ve said to a couple of those people I’d help them produce their records and if they take that leap of faith and do it, I’d be happy to help them.”

Bio

Rick began writing songs when he was 14. It was only in his early 20s when he developed a sound he believed in. In this period he has gained fans across the world including the BBC, US labels & producers and his strong Manchester fan base who have supported him from the start.
Rick has played shows at Kendal Calling, Dot2Dot Festival, Liverpool Sound City and promoted his own sold out single launch in Manchester for his self produced debut single 'By The River'.
He got rave reviews at a SXSW Demo Listening session off record labels and producers for 'By The River'. Jaime Neely from Warner Bros US compared Rick's song to a band that caught his eye the night before - 'The 1975'. He was desperate to see Rick perform at the festival, however Rick did not apply to showcase that year. Top US producer Robin Danar also was very interested in working with Rick on his debut EP in LA. Richard Ashcroft and The Verve's long-time producer, Chris Potter was also keen to work with Rick after seeing him at several London shows, where Rick was self promoting his first studio recording - 'By the River'.
At SXSW 2013, Rick gained strong links to Rhapsody who became fans of his music at their showcase event. As well as Rhapsody offering Rick a featured spot on their website, Paul Springer (SVP @Rhapsody) invited Rick to their offices in Seattle to play a live session. He also gained strong links to top UK based blog 'Crack in the Road' and David J Pichilingi from Liverpool Sound City, who are awaiting his debut EP.
Through playing some high profile shows in the UK at Manchester's Soundcontrol, supporting the likes of Saint Raymond and Liam Frost, Rick has been approached by an independent Manchester label and will be signing a big management contract early next year. Despite not releasing any of his material, he has been regularly played by the BBC Introducing team, locally and nationally and has is followed by several music blogs who are awaiting his first release.
Rick has played over 25 shows since he started in Feb 2013 and has high profiles booked in for 2014, including one sold out show in January in a 500 capacity venue in Manchester, UK.
He has just signed his first independent record deal and is talks with a major management company who will together be helping release his debut EP, early next year.
