Bio

When it comes to musical genre, Rick Kurek’s blend of life-induced alternative and acoustic tribal pop rock does not attempt to claim new territory or invoke the trends of the moment. Instead, his straight-ahead musical style is winning fans across the country with unique takes on universal themes.

Rick's thought provoking lyrics and rock-n-roll blues infused music stir the soul, feed the mind, and move the body. The Music is In him and each note he shares
brings the listener closer to his world of inspired artistry.

His gift as a songwriter was recently recognized when director Thom Fitzgerald included HEAVEN TO ME for a pivotal scene in the fi lm The Event starring Olympia Dukakis and Parker Posey. On television, The Twilight Zone utilized Rick’s chops on his axe for two episodes. His music accompanied a possessed guitar in the first episode and at the producer's request, Rick composed
an original song for the demise of the main character in the other episode.

Rick has emerged as a solo artist after winning fans across the country while per forming with the rock band BROTHER as their dynamic lead guitarist. As one reviewer said, “On guitars is Rick Kurek, a Chicago native, whose dynamic stage presence is a key force in BROTHER’s ability to pick an audience up and shake it senseless”.

Rick plays seven instruments including guitar, the Native American flute, a cello of his own design and has added the didjeridoo to his rep er toire of instruments. If it's got strings, Rick can make it sing!

Recently opening for the band Seven Nations during their Eastern US tour, Rick’s performance of his newest CD “White Coat Lullaby” was enthusiastically received by audiences. Tantalized by his charismatic stage presence, soulful vocalizations, and lyrics that penetrate the psyche, the fans were brought to their feet applauding for more.

Rick, the youngest of five, was born and raised in Chicago. He first picked up a guitar at age 4, but didn’t takea lesson until age 10. By the time he was fifteen he was obsessed with music. Wanting to sound more like Ted Nugent than the Ventures, he swapped the tubes in his Sears catalog amplifier with speakers from a TV found in an alley. Finally, he had found a sound that motivated six-hour practice days. After graduating from high school, Rick received a scholarship to the American Conservatory of Music, where he was introduced to jazz improvisation and classical orchestration. However, his heart was in the streets, admiring the raw feeling and soul in the performers he saw in the subway and on street corners.

One might imagine Jewel and Dave Matthews making love while listening to Stravinsky, with the ghost of Stevie Ray Vaughn looming overhead. Their love child could be Rick.

This consummate young talent has a bright future. He’s a true artist, a musical chameleon bent on creation and a hopeful soul more than ready to shine his light on the masses…or two ears at a time.

There’s no denying the inspiration & soul that pours from his voice to the microphone and from his fingers to instruments.
