"Joe Banamassa review"

The musicianship is excellent (the band is formed by bass player Carmine Rojas, drummer Jason Bonham and keyboard player Rick Melick), the production (by Kevin Shirley) is crystal clear, the somewhat rough voice of Joe fits perfectly to the music and the guitar playing is at times magnificent - www.lordsofmetal.nl

"Skunk Baxter Farmhand Live"

Jeffery 'Skunk' Baxter (Steely Dan Doobie Bros) and friends included Jimmy Barnes, Glenn Shorrock, Doc Neeson, John Swann, Barry Leef, Rick Melick, Paul Christy, Harry Brus.
It was a never to repeated extravaganza celebrating the collective musical talents of some extraordinary musicians coming together to assist the drought affected communities of Australia. - Drum Media

"Big Daddys"

Since 1998 The Big Daddys has been one of the most prominent bands to grace the Diamond Fairway room at the Palm Beach Golf Club and have formed a special relationship with the people who have seen the band over the years.

"Our first gig there was on Valentine's Day 1998 and I reckon we could have sold 1500 tickets," says bassist Paul Christie. "It was summer and it went off."

The Daddys comprises Christie on bass, Kevin Borich and John Spence on guitars, Rick Melick on keyboards and Richard Harvey on drums. - Manly Daily

"Jimmy Little"

Jimmy Little's album "The Messenger" has been certified Gold by ARIA meaning 35,000 of you people out there bought copies. But there's no resting on his laurels as the follow up is well under way with original songs being submitted from many writers including Don Walker, Rick Melick, Paul Kelly and Brendan Gallagher.

After his recenet shows at Womadelaide, Jimmy will be doing some shows a little closer to home. Joining him for these dates will be his band consisting of former Angels rhythm section Chris Bailey and Buzz Bidstrup, session king Rick Melick on keyboards, Tap Dogs composer Andrew Wilke on percussion and vibes and Lo-Tel guitarist Martin Hailey. - Drum Media

"top song"

Almost top of the pops will have to do Rick Melick and Martin Coxall --for now.

A Carribean backdrop was the inspiration behind the song which won them second place in the Billboard Pop Songwriting Competition, brainchild of US music producer Quincy Jones, arguably the biggest contest of it's kind in the world.

They beat 2000 entrants with "Halfway To Heaven" for second place and won a Gibson accoustic guitar. - manly daily

Bio

Rick Melick’s time has come. After years of keyboard duties as a side man to many of Australia’s great rock and rhythm & blues acts he is stepping out front to bring his own fresh and unique approach to RnB, funk and soul music.

Among the many gigs in a career that spans two decades you can include Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter, (Steely Dan & Doobie Bros.) Dragon, Jon Stevens, Stevie Wright, Marc Hunter, Glenn Shorrock, Brian Cadd, Doug Parkinson and Jimmy Little.

Internationally he has shared the stage with Queen, Roxy Music, Brian Ferry, B.B. King, Chicago, ZZ Top, The Neville Brothers, Tony Joe White, Ben Harper, Meatloaf and Mick Fleetwood. In late 2005 he was invited to Las Vegas for the new Joe Bonamassa offering 'You and Me' (www.jbonamassa.com).

Although Rick has played on over 30 CD’s he has a very special place in his heart for his professional and personal relationship with the late John Denver which culminated in the piano and orchestra recording of the international hit single ‘For You’.

Television has also featured in his capacity as a composer and currently he has the theme music for ‘Escape With ET’ on air, and scored the music for the TV pilot 'Road To Adventure.' He has also composed for film.

Rick has chosen a repertoire for his band which not only includes his RnB and funk influenced original songs but also draws on the world’s greatest modern artists such as Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Otis Redding, The Neville Bros., B. B. King, Tim Buckley, Jon Cleary, and Ben Harper and plays them with a unique and inspirational bent.

With a track record like this, it is not unreasonable for Rick to be able to call upon a talent bank of musicians of exceptional ability, with credits spanning from Richard Clapton and Vannessa Amerossi to Jimmy Barnes, Absent Friends, Wendy Matthews & James Reyne.

When you take a bunch of Australia's best touring and studio musicians and let them play the music they really love, then you have a world class rhythm and blues band that is The Rick Melick Band
