Bio

Rick Antillon (also known as Rick Sotero, Sotero Errera, Bugsy Bones, Doc Holiday, and DJ Defiance) comes from an eclectic musical background. As a child, Rick grew up in Europe listening to 70’s albums including his parents 12” LPs of Rod Steward, Blondie as well as many others from that era of sound. In this era of vinyl and 8 tracks, Rick created his first mixes by recording vinyl to tapes and than cutting and splicing them together. Later, in the 80’s while living in Arizona, both his Mother’s musical talent as well as the sounds of punk rock, electronica, reggae, and hip-hop influenced him. Musical works by Run DMC, Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash, Beastie Boys, Sex Pistols, Minor Threat, Rush, Bad Brains, Depech Mode, New Order, The Cure, and Kraftwork found their way into his record collection. Rick’s interest and enthusiasm for music prompted him at an early age to begin reading music and learning several instruments which he played all the way through high school. The only thing that could drag him away from his music was his passion for motocross, skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding and the party scene!
In 1992 Julian of Nebula 9 and Mike E hired Rick to work at one of the first warehouse raves in Boulder, Colorado, and then later the outdoor Eden forest parties. It was at these parties that he experienced the magic of turntables being used as instruments for the first time. However, Rick was pre-occupied by the snowboard industry and their love for hip-hop. Rick started Fish Eye Films and produced several snowboard and motocross films from 1992 – 2000. 70’s rock, punk rock, and hip-hop were arranged and mixed by DJ Defiance (Rick), and fellow pro snowboarder’s Tarquin Robbins (DJ Fade) and Quin Sandvold (DJ Quest) for the films’ soundtracks. Every single cut or edit in the films were matched to a beat in the soundtrack just like matching a beat on turntables with one record and a piece of film.
In 1996, Rick was approached by Hardy and Lucas of Soma and was given his first opportunity to play live at THE VIBES AHEAD LOUNGE. At this time Rick was influenced by the scratching of DJ Greyboy, Rectangle, Q-Bert, and local DJs Dijon, K-Nee, and Chonz. Spinning hip-hop, acid jazz, and ragga at Vibes Ahead, Rick had the chance to open for Greyboy, Mark Farina, and King Britt. Both Farina and King Britt influenced Rick’s evolution into house music but it was not until Hardy and Lucas opened up Club Soma where Rick’s music style changed. At Club Soma Rick started out as one of the first hip-hop resident DJs giving him many opportunities to listen to other DJs. It was here that Rick (than DJ Defiance) remembered the early rave days and than became Doc Holiday filling up his crates with hard house and trance records. The live sets of Wyatt Earp, Milehighhouse DJs, and many other house originators helped Rick experience a new sound in house music. Hipp-e, Halo, and Q-Burns are also cited as big influences. Since this time, he has evolved his taste into deep house, acid house, electro, tech-house, and breaks.
Recently arriving in Los Angeles from Miami, Rick (now going by Sotero Errera or Rick Sotero – Sotero being his middle name and Errera his Grandfather’s name) is making a reputation in LA by spinning guest spots and residencies. While maintaining two businesses, his passion for action sports, and his love of film, Sotero is working on producing some of his first house tracks. Besides being part of Milehighhouse, Sotero is now with Orange Country based crews Purple Haze Entertainment and Hometown Getdown. Some of his career highlights include playing for rock star Pink’s summer birthday bash, playing along side Mark Farina, Tony Humphries, King Britt, Greyboy and Beat Junkies. Other career highlights include film on MTV, Hard Rock Casino Snowboard Rail Jam, Fox Sports Television, ESPN 2, Triple Crown of Snowboarding on NBC Televisions, Chevy Snowboard Grand Prix, NBC Television Gravity Games, JAYO Invitational, World Music Conference – Denmark & New York.Sotero has performed live in Miami (6 hour weekly sets), Colorado, Las Vegas, San Francisco and numerous clubs, restaurants, lounges, fashion shows and sporting events through out the United States. He is also featured on clubnetradio.com in the house section.
