Bio

"One man wonderband Ricky Lee Robinson will be making a rare string of live performances this week in SoCal, serving up his Big Star-meets-Sympathy for the Record Industry fuzzed out garage pop bliss to local music fans. Robinson sings and plays a foot-controlled three-piece drum kit while bashing out retrorock influenced chords through amped guitars and keyboards to create a mix of lofi stomps, rock ballads, and pop nuggets. After recognition in 2006 for a rework of the 1976 Lord Davis Dundas hit, ‘Jeans On’, his sophomore 2008 release Secret Love Tricks went on to appear on over forty top 10 and top 30 college charts across the US including the CMJ top 200, and was named one of the top 10 albums of 2008 by San Francisco Bay Area’s Bagel Radio. Robinson has shared the stage with The Pixies, Todd Rundgren, and Stephen Malkmus, but is known for his renegade street performances in New York, San Francisco, Austin, and Los Angeles. If a one man manifestation of your Nuggets boxset ever existed, that man is Ricky Lee Robinson."

"Onstage, Ricky Lee Robinson cuts a bold figure. Dressed in a bright white tuxedo, he sits behind a modified drum set bashing away at his acoustic guitar while playing the drums with his feet—a one-man White Stripes, if you will. His voice is as arresting as his look, his raspy, booming tone perfectly suited for the ruckus he makes."
-San Francisco Magazine

"Ricky is the total package: a literal one-man band whose musical talents exceed almost all contemporaries, with passion, sophistication, and writing abilities that dig deep beneath the surface.” -DecentX.com

“Robinson’s sharp ear for classic pop chord progressions pays off in spades—whether he’s singing about mysterious ladies or absolutely nothing, he fills every corner of Mushu Pork with sticky hooks, reverb-drenched guitars, and the joyful noise of someone doing what they truly love."
