Ric Notes is a Rap Music Instrumentalist who stays true to the essence of Hip-Hop and it’s foundation while innovating the genre. The elements of the original sound of Hip-Hop are clearly evident in his work, as well as fresh new elements that he has created himself that make his music unique. And even though it is obvious that Ric Notes is extremely fond of experimenting, his music never strays away from Hip-Hop.
Notes spends most, if not all, of his free time on his music. He is determined to continue developing his craft. Ric is currently recording songs with a variety of artists as an instrumentalist and producer. He owns and runs a project studio in which he plays every role from composer to engineer. Most of his current projects are being done in his studio. Ricardo is also attending the “Independent Music Production” program at Seneca in which he passed a selection process and was one of the 22 out of 300 that were chosen.
Ric is the living personification of Hip-Hop culture. He started off as a “b-boy” or breakdancer. Notes would always practice to funk songs of the 70s and quickly became educated on how Hip-Hop music was made. From breakdancing, he became a DJ since he started collecting the records of the songs he would dance to. He was 15 years old when he made his first instrumental using samples from his record collection. Ric Notes’ style has since evolved to include more than just samples in his “tools of the trade”. Imagine Dj Premier meets Timbaland meets Pete Rock meets The Neptunes meets Quincy Jones meets Dilla meets Isaac hayes etc… But although you can see a rich tapestry of these influences in his music, he puts them together in a way that sounds familiar yet fresh and distinct.
Hip-Hop music has recently lost it’s soul to the media. It has become just a vehicle make money and it uses everything but the music to sell itself. Ric Notes is an example of what Hip-Hop music needs to retain it’s integrity. Ric Notes takes it back to the beginnings while bringing it forward into the future. Ric Notes has an undeniably love for Hip-Hop. If you love Hip-Hop, you’ll love Ric Notes.
