"Rico Davis & Fatman Scoop Hit or Miss?"

I feel like it's been awhile since we've heard a good R&B/Club hit from a brand new artist. Rico Davis new single "Freakshow" definitely has that hit potential. It's got that uptempo beat and catchy hook that you need and Fatman Scoop brings his usually energy to the track to take it to the next level.

The only problem for me is that it seems like there's something missing that's keeping this from being a real big single but I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm definitely feeling the song as a whole but at the same time there's nothing that really sets it apart from the rest of the uptempo R&B songs you hear on the radio. It's probably going to get some radio spins but at the same time, it could get lost in the shuffle. It's tough to say.

What do you think about "Freakshow"? Could this be a hit?

Bio

Phenomenal talent is rarely discovered in today's world of music. Born and raised in the poverty stricken and infamous city of Camden, New Jersey; Rico Davis knew at a young age that he wanted to sing. Unlike his peers, the child prodigy always focused on reaching for the stars and understood that achieving such a dream would require an immense amount of sacrifice. "I knew that becoming a mainstream singer would mean I'd have to give up certain things that most kids my age longed for. Instead of shopping at the mall and paying for the prom, I saved up my paychecks and paid for studio time." says the 20 year old singer. Despite the financial hardships that his mother was burdened with Rico had her support every step of the way; making sure he was in vocal classes and dance classes instead of the streets was her priority. This proved to be a wise decision. At the age of 13 the future R&B/pop star traveled to Germany, Italy, and Puerto Rico winning 3 world renowned international vocal competitions. He was also casted as the lead role in several off broadway productions such as The Wiz (Scarecrow), West Side Story (Tony), and Othello (Cassio). Demonstrating that his gifts exceeded the realm of singing and acting; at the age of 14 Rico landed a gig dancing backup for Epic Records recording artist Jill Scott in her 2003 music video "Slide" featuring Jeff Bradshaw. Although Rico had achieved great accomplishments before he graduated from high school, he knew that it still would not be enough for him to meet his goals. "It was a tough decision, but as soon as I graduated from high school I moved to New York to pursue my music career. I didn't want to leave my family behind because we always struggled together; but I knew I had to for the greater good." Subsequently Rico moved to New York City to further pursue his dream. Within one year of living in New York he landed a single deal with The Orchard for a song he had written called Freakshow; which would later feature 2X Grammy award winning artist Fatman Scoop. Following the release of the single, this R&B/pop prince released his EP The Broken-Hearts Club for free via his official website. After several performances in the tri-state area to promote his EP, Rico took time to go back into the studio to record his next single. This breathtaking and exciting live performer will any day now be the kid from the gutter that becomes a pop culture, global success. Rico Davis will emerge and take the entire world by storm.
