Ride ‘em Cowboy accepts no responsibility for any excessive crying, cheating, fighting, boozing, gambling and/or cussing which may result from attending one of their shows and being exposed to some kickass country/rockabilly/honky tonk songs.

Biography

Alt-country band Ride 'Em Cowboy formed on a sultry summer night in 2002 as the tumbleweed blew through town and the coyotes sang a hurtin' song. Mike "Chinese Eyes" Young had just laid his trusty six-string shooter down at the bar when in walked ex-Whipping Post singer Janet Stone. There'd been a lot of water under the bridge, a lot of whisky drunk, but the former songwriting duo decided to mend some fences - and get the gang back together.

Trouble was, they had no gang. Just then a shadowy figure up to no good stumbled into the tavern. And behind him came "Slick" Rick Norris - a bass player known for his bottom end and, as fate would have it, his good timing. He'd do fine.

Soon the gang grew with the addition of Boyd "Choirboy" Tattrie, a rhythm guitar slinger with the voice of an angel. And after losing many a drummer to the gallows and spontaneous combustion, Peter "Pistol Pete" Reali mosied into their lives and started laying down the backbeat.

A blend of rockabilly, stone country and good old honky tonk, Ride 'Em Cowboy has built a loyal following by writing and performing songs about lyin', cryin', sighin' and dyin'.

Their six song demo, recorded in June 2005, ranges from the melancholy "Nothing Left But Blue" to the crowd favourite "Lucky 13".

Ride 'Em Cowboy dream of making a full-length CD with the late Hank Williams, touring Texas in personalized Airstream trailers and getting a case of Jack on their rider.

Lyrics

Gunslinger

Written By: Janet Stone-Lyrics Mike Young-Music

HE SAUNTERED INTO TOWN WEARING A FROWN
A HOLSTER ON HIPS, LOVE ON HIS LIPS
ALL THE LADIES SWOONED AS HE ENTERED THE SALOON
BAR DOORS SWINGING,
GUNSLINGER

chorus

THE POSSE FOLLOWED SUIT, IN HOT PURSUIT
TOOK THE FIGHTING TO THE STREET,
A SHOWDOWN, A DEFEAT
KICKING UP THE DUST, POINT & START TO SHOOT
GUNSLINGER

Chorus
WHY DON’T YOU TRY TO PRY HIS COLD DEAD FINGERS
FROM THE BUTT OF THE GUN
WATCH HIM WALKING INTO THE SETTING SUN

bridge

SUNDAY MATINEES, SPAGETTI WESTERN HAZE
WAYNE & EASTWOOD COULD
SO BAD & UGLY THEY WERE GOOD
THE SHERIFF HAS LEFT TOWN
TUMBLEWEED THE ONLY SOUND
GUNSLINGER

WHY DON’T YOU TRY TO PRY HIS COLD DEAD FINGERS
FROM THE BUTT OF THE GUN
WATCH HIM WALKING INTO THE SETTING SUN

Nothing Left But Blue

Written By: Janet Stone-Lyrics Mike Young-Music

NOTHING LEFT BUT BLUE

I WOULD HAVE GIVEN YOU ANYTHING
BUT YOU NEVER THOUGHT TO ASK
I WOULD HAVE LAID DOWN WITH THE LIONS
I JUST WANTED TO BE YOUR LAMB
BOTH OUR LIVES ARE SHATTERED
FEEL THE BREAKING GLASS
I DON’T KNOW THE WHO, WHAT, HOW
BUT ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?

Chorus
MEMORIES BITTERSWEET
OF THE LIFE WE ONCE KNEW
ALL COMES DOWN IN THE END
TO NOTHING LEFT BUT BLUE

I LONG FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR ARMS
HOLDING ME SO TIGHT
I DON’T KNOW WHY I LET YOU GO
I DON’T KNOW WHY WE HAD TO FIGHT
WE’VE JUST SIGNED THE PAPERS
IT’S ALL BEEN FINALIZED
YOU ARE NOT MY HUSBAND NOW
AND I AM NOT YOUR WIFE

Chorus
MEMORIES BITTERSWEET
OF THE LIFE WE ONCE KNEW
ALL COMES DOWN IN THE END
TO NOTHING LEFT BUT BLUE

Lucky 13

Written By: Janet Stone-Lyrics Mike Young-Music

LUCKY 13

13 years and I loved you completely,
Oh I trusted you,
13 years and you’ve done me wrong
Now all I have to save me is this song

13 years and you’ve betrayed me
Oh you took me for a fool
13 years I still can’t believe it
That I have been so easily replaced

c//Lucky 13, Lucky 13
I never knew you were so mean x 2

13 years it’s taken time but healing
Oh I still picture your face
13 years searching for forgiveness
Reaching for a state of grace

c// Lucky 13, Lucky 13
I never knew you were so mean x 2

13 years and I loved you completely
Oh I trusted you
13 years and you’ve done me wrong
Now all I have to save me is this song

c// Lucky 13, Lucky 13
I never knew you were so mean x2
Lucky 13, Lucky 13
You broke my heart, walked away scott free
