From outside Chicago, Illinois’s most interesting contribution to Robfest is easily the duo Right Rongly. Among acoustic guitar, oddly phrased lyrics and intricate drumming, the sound is something out of a dream where Primus is acoustic, dynamic and concentrated instead of jam-y. The guitar is straight virtuoso and the drums aren’t far off. Together it’s impossible to stay ahead of their notes, but at the same time, it’s just as impossible to not be delightfully engaged. - Dan Vierck

Right Rongly is a musical duo, and their only real musical influence is Honesty. Any band who's every walked it like they talked it is an influence. ANY band. Metal, country, folk, ska, whatever. Some examples include: Primus, Grateful Dead, Rush, Soundgarden, Janes Addiction, System of a Down, Fugazi, Faith No More, Queens of the Stone Age, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, etc.
Right Rongly's Scottish McMillan writes, sings, plays guitar, and runs a loop sampler on his guitar. He's a busy guy on stage, and keeping up with him requires a drummer who can hold his own, along with everyone else's. Drummer Ryan Aiello whips out funky, fiery fills that make your flab jiggle, and lays it down like a hardwood floor everywhere else. Without any other instruments in the band, both Scottish & Ryan have some sonic space to fill, and they do it like they thought of it first. If comparisons to better-known acts must be made, the one most often offered up by their audiences are along the lines of: "Soundgarden, Les Claypool, and Keller Williams in a blender, on 'puree'."
A little bit about Scottish...
In 2002, he released a critically-acclaimed CD called "Vice Verses"; he toured England in 2003 and 2004, appearing on several BBC radio shows featuring on-air performances; and in 2005, the song, "Yeah, Whatever," from"Vice Verses," was nominated for the Best Male Singer/Songwriter award by Just Plain Folks (www.jpfolks.org). As a solo artist, Scottish has played most of Chicago's nicer venues (House of Blues, Schuba's, Cubby Bear, and many more); and in 2006, Scottish was contracted by Stonecutter Records to make a special recording for Stonecutter's Acoustic Chicago release (see www.acoustic-chicago.com). The CD/DVD is being nationally promoted.
After a couple of "Craig's List" classified ads came and went, Ryan Aiello answered, and Right Rongly got busy. Ryan is a degreed Music Performance Major, and it shows. Ryan's musical tastes are as varied as Scottish's, and what results when they put their heads together makes them one of the most exciting and ground-breaking rock bands Chicago has seen in years.
Right Rongly has warmed up the crowds of acts like Les Claypool, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Clutch, including rocking out for about 750 fans of The Presidents of the United States of America at The Rave's Eagles Club in Milwaukee, WI - and they took them all home. A show at Chicago's famed Double Door was shot in multi-camera, high-definition video - a few chioce cuts from the show can be seen on YouTube.
More recently, Right Rongly has kept a full schedule of playing live, opening for national acts like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Clutch, as well as recording. They are currently recording their debut studio album, out in early 2010.
