"COHESIVE AND EVOCATIVE"

By Peter Andersen

MUSIC: Rikke Lundorff: “Rikke Lundorff” (EP)

With the dark Scandina-vian autumn looking over our shoulder, it’s a relief to be able to put Rikke Lundorff’s little EP in the CD player.
She draws on the transatlantic singer/songwriter tradi-tion, and on the traditional folk music from which it originally sprang.
She then adds cello to the mix and slight touches of Jazz.
This gives an evocative, cohesive entity, with Rikke Lundorff’s clear, beautiful vocals as an insistent little candle flame - giving us a little fortification in these gloomy “the nights are fair drawing in” September evenings.
The lyrics are all in English, with beautiful arrangements that draw strongly on Scandinavian folk music, such as “There is an-other way around it” and “The lady from the top floor”.
Rikke Lundorff’s record is among the most original offerings I have heard in a long time. Get a whole album done!

"YOUNG DANISH SINGER/SONGWRITER WITH A WIDE RANGE"

Rikke Lundorff is a young, recently educated singer, and apparently one of the ambitious ones. She’s cer-tainly been quick off the mark, and has got a band together and released an album, that can be best de-scribed as belonging to the singer/songwriter genre, but with clear inspiration from traditional music. The elfin singer’s band consists of a cellist, a violinist, a jazz gui-tarist and a percussionist - and together they get something very beautiful out of Rikke Lundorffs ma-terial. The arrangements make the music seem both dark and light all at once. Dark because of the violin and cello arrangements, and light because of Rikke’s feather-light crystal-line vocals. This range makes for a very interesting album. But the album does sometimes feel a little too delicate, as if not quite dar-ing to take what it started and finish it. So perhaps a little too careful, despite great qualities.

"SPELLBINDING"

By Simon Staun Folk/pop, Rikke Lundorff: “Don’t look up”
When Rikke Lundorff released her five track EP “Rikke Lundorff” last autumn, the five star review concluded that the music was a perfect antidote for the autumn gloom. Here, half a year later, the songs have multiplied, and there are twelve crys-talline, beautifully played tracks on the debut al-bum. The intimacy in the recordings is clear - one almost imagines Rikke snuggling up between her musicians. There are lots of songs with potential for both pop lovers and folk-fanatics. “There is another way around it” deserves special mention.

Review of Rikke Lundorff concert

Rikke Lundorff and her four musi-cians created a playful, intimate acoustic universe that was difficult not to feel welcome in. Her music drew deeply on the transatlantic singer/songwriter tradition, as well as the european folk-musics that this originally sprang from. With her tender and moving vocals, she drew the audience in, and kept them there until the very last note.
