"Local Forsyth teen star on the rise Riley Biederer signs with Elton John, receives Georgia Music Hall of Fame award"

The sky is the limit for 16-year-old Riley Biederer of Cumming, a talented young singer/songwriter who continues to impress music industry professionals with her strong vocals, heartfelt lyrics and unwavering self-confidence.

In early October, she performed at the 34th annual Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards in Marietta, where Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal presented her with the prestigious Horizon Award given to young performers from Georgia who show strong promise. To put things in perspective, last year's Horizon Award was given to Justin Bieber.

"When music icon Sir Elton John believes your me, you're good."

When music icon Sir Elton John believes your me, you're good. After being
discovered by life-long musician and Grammy winning producer Matt Still ( credits include: Elton
John , Outkast, Lady Gaga, Jewel, Rod Stewart, Joss Stone, PNAU, Santana, Alice In Chains,
B.B. King, T.I., Nelly, Sevendust, Third Day, Bruce Hornsby, Ann Wilson, Steve Walsh, TLC,
Arrested Development, Brandi Carlile, and Stevie Wonder), he took Riley's work to Elton John
who was impressed with her music and talent. It would be Elton's worldwide management
company, Rocket Music, that would sign Riley to a multi-year contract.

Matt has since produced three of her original songs and has released two, "Justice" and "Polish
The In" to The Georgia Music Channel, which has both songs in airplay rotation.

Having written over 150 original songs in the last 18 months, and recently co-written with some
of the most successful songwriters like Kristian Bush (Sugarland), Lindy Robbins ( Demi Lovato,
Jason Derulo, Hot Chelle Rae, One Direction ) , Jamie Hartman, ( Jason Mraz, Joss Stone,
Christina Aguilera) Robbie Nevil, C'Est La Vie, High School Musical, Destiny's Child, Jessica
Simpson, John Fields (Jonas Brothers , Pink, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus) Matthew Wilder ( Kelly
Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Christina Aguilera), Jimmy Harry (Madonna, Pink), and several other
songwriters, Riley Biederer at the age of 16 is emerging as the next Georgia music artist to
become a household name. - The Georgia Music Channel

"Riley Biederer — a 16-year-old singer/songwriter with one of the most powerful voices to appear on the music scene lately. Catch her performance in NYC on Friday night (March 15) and hear why Rolling Stone magazine called her “refreshingly unaffected.”"

"Riley Biederer is a singer/songwriter from Atlanta, with a musical gift that almost seems beyond her sixteen years. But the more you listen to her, the more you figure that she probably sounded just as amazing when she was 14 years old… or maybe even at 12. It’s the sound of natural talent; a young musical warrior sharpening her vocal sword before your very ears. It’s exciting stuff, to be sure. In addition to writing on her own, she has collaborated with a host of well-known songwriters in the pop, rock & country genres, & recorded with producer/engineer Matt Still (Elton John, Outkast). She was signed in December 2011 at Elton John’s direction to the international music management company Rocket Music (Elton John, James Blunt, Lily Allen, Ed Sheeran). Riley is currently writing & recording songs for her debut album. You’ll be impressed not only by the power of Riley’s voice, but by the nuanced manner with which she uses her instrument. "The headliner for the evening was the blossoming Riley Biederer."

"The headliner for the evening was the blossoming Riley Biederer. Riley is a 17 year old dynamo who has potential for serious stardom. Riley and her newly minted band unleashed her original material on the very eager crowd in the 12th and Porter lounge, with almost unanimous agreement that there is more to this pop tart than meets the eye. She brings a bit of an attitude not usually available to someone of her age, and her presence on the stage is riveting." "There’s no doubt both these terrifically talented young women will be back whether in a club or, in the case of Riley, quite possibly Bridgestone Arena. In the meantime, if you have the opportunity to see either, take it, enjoy it and say hello from the folks here in the Central Time Zone." - MarkT Turcotte Nashvilleman

"Riley Biederer signs management contract with Rocket Music"

For any aspiring musician the opportunity to sign a management contract is a significant achievement to establishing a career in the music business. However, when you’ve only been performing publicly for two years and you are signed by the management company of a music legend, it’s only natural to get excited at what the future holds. That exact scenario is playing out currently for 15-year old Riley Biederer.
Riley, a Cumming native and sophomore at West Forsyth High School, was signed last week to a multi-year exclusive deal by Elton John’s Rocket Music. Her dad, Frank, stated via Riley’s Facebook fan page, “While it feels like a major milestone that Riley and the rest of the family worked really hard to attain, it’s really just a first step for her.” A promising first step indeed for this acoustic guitarist and singer/songwriter.
All of Forsyth County is behind you, Riley, and we’re thrilled to watch as you make your mark in the music world!

Still working on that hot first release.

The first thing you notice about Atlanta-raised singer/songwriter Riley is how self-assured she is at seventeen. I want to record an album, she says. I want people to relate to my lyrics the way Ive related to other people in my life. I want to do tours. I love when the audience sings along with words Ive written. Her vocal virtuosity is undeniable too. But neither trait marks her as an outlier, not among what a new book calls Alpha Girls.

Twenty-first century girls rule. Beyonce, Adele, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, P!nk, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift none has a legitimate male counterpart, in profile, sales, or cultural relevance. Guy singers skate by on their female appeal. Boys even take a beating in the lyrics of the songs on the radio. Blow Me. Mr. Know It All. We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together. Turns out theyre not so exceptional these days: confident young women.

Thanks to the ubiquity of Garage Band, Rileys also not the first Alpha Girl to write her first song after school on her neighbors laptop. But few of those compositions are compelling enough to hook producers, publishers, and Elton Johns management company. Most writers struggle to become natural at taking something specific a classmates lack of self-confidence on the guitar (a boy, naturally, in this case) and making the creative leap to a universally relatable and marketable theme: we all feel a little broken on the inside. Thats a rare knack. Accomplished songwriters no doubt try to channel it each time they pick up a guitar.

I try to write about whats real, Riley says. I write about love, because everybody knows what thats like, good or bad. The scars from her first crush are admittedly still pink and fresh. I didnt like the way he dressed, she says of the unfortunate boy, not without remorse in hindsight. I was his first girlfriend and I broke his heart. But she stops short of apologizing for having a youthful lyrical frame-of-reference. Youre learning what heartbreak is. You look back later and you realize it gets better, but at the time youre like Oh my God, its my whole life.

More recently, Riley found herself on the wrong end of getting dumped, by a guy with whom she was head over heels. Like a true Alpha Girl, she made the experience work for her. He was talking to a friend of mine after, she says, meaning romantically. And she was telling me everything. I told Catt (Gravitt) on the way to the studio, and we just kept saying, Whats he thinking? Hes so stupid. How do we get this across in a song? Riley considers the track they wrote Stupid the best of the two hundred or so shes written or co-written. I love the vibe of it, she says. Its really real and so fun, she says. And empowering for girls. I get the last laugh.

Riley continues to write and record in Atlanta, Nashville, New York and Los Angeles for her forthcoming debut album.   A recent full band showcase at the Rockwood Music Hall in NY has attracted the attention of major and independent record labels and publishers, and Riley currently has four publishing agreements on the table, with negotiations ongoing with an expectation of a first quarter announcement.
