Tokyo, Japan's RIP VAN WINKLE is an alternative duo established in 2011. After having met in Toronto, Canada by chance, Taku and Hitomi have collaborated since their return to Tokyo.
Taku, the guitar-vocalist and frontman, brings his punk and classic rock essence to create a powerful and edgy sound that syncs with every stroke of the drums. His lyrics have been influenced by elements of the Beat Generation and revolve around the different perceptions of time and place. The dynamics from ghost notes to explosive cymbal crashes in Hitomi’s drumming drive each song and give prominence to the guitar riffs and vocal lines.
Often referred to as the Japanese “White Stripes”, their slow to fast-paced melodic grooves, unpredictable time changes and energy provoke thrill and excitement to their listeners. In their live performances, this dynamic duo takes their audience on a roller coaster ride of versatile moods.
Their first album titled Time is Flying is scheduled to be released on December 2nd, 2015.
