Bio

We got together for the first time in November 2005 at our sixth form in Derbyshire, when we took part in a Beatles tribute gig and performed the classic song Day Tripper. In all fifteen bands took part in the gig. We received a fantastic response and there was a unanimous call for an encore. Being the only band having gained this reaction, the standard was set for Riptide.

Using borrowed equipment we instantly started taking bookings for events such as weddings and parties, taking place in hotels, bars and pubs. From a high volume of paid gigs over the year we were able to reinvest our earnings into our equipment leading to the accumulation of a decent rig, for bigger gigs.

Now well-established in our hometown, we regularly volunteer our services and equipment to help charities and local business. We have headlined several music festivals such as Village Aid in Wirksworth, Whatstandwell Music Festival and the Tom McGonigal Trust Fund event in Belper. Our own annual charity event ‘Yuletide with Riptide’ has, over three years, raised around £3000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. The event involved organising advertisements, support bands, a small team of technical assistants, and our continued communication with the charity. After our first ‘Yuletide with Riptide’ event, the Derby Evening Telegraph reported that “The night was hailed as a huge success and raised £800 for the charity.” We are currently meeting with newspapers to report on the latest event.

In the summer of 2008, we recorded an 11-track LP of our own material which we hope demonstrates our style of music. Once it was complete we invested in professional duplication of the album, and when we started promoting it at gigs we experienced a strong demand for them. Our style of music can be described as pop rock, with influences from the likes of Oasis and the Goo Goo Dolls.

We also travelled to Cornwall last year with a large group of supporters to perform a number of successful shows, in clubs and bars from Newquay to Penzance, where most venues have asked us to return. We have also had a fair amount of exposure, being named ‘Artist of the Week’ on MP3unsigned.com, we have had an interview with online radio station Ukundiscovered.co.uk and recently been voted number 1 in their chart. We have been featured online in BBC Derby’s unsigned section, and have also been commended in local newspapers for our achievements. Most recently, we have had our tracks played on Newcastle’s ‘Lionheart FM,’ and Sheffield University’s ‘Forge Radio.’

“A great slice of british pop-rock!”

“Like your other songs this is is a very tidy, melodic and energetic - my pogoing days are all but behind me but believe me my heads going ten to the dozen here...and I'm wearing what can only be described as a dumb ass grin.”
