For those of you that, like me, have never heard of Rising Tide, I can promise you, if you like Alternative, Indie music you will not be disappointed. Their debut EP is titled Painkiller and is more than well worth a listen. The band hail from Brighton and are described as a four piece alternative/indie/rock outfit. The group consists of: Martyn Wilson (vocals/guitar), Emma Newlyn (guitar/keyboards), Adam Rutherford (bass), Frankie Sparrowhawk (drums).
Although this brilliant little EP contains only three songs, the diverse talents of the band shine through.
At first I was thinking that this the lead track was going to be a Judas Priest cover and I was glad to be mistaken. Even though the band cite their influences as Radiohead, Biffy Clyro and Arcade Fire, there are striking similarities in these three tracks to more contemporary, home-grown talents. The Guitar work, particularly at the start of the title track, is very similar to ‘If You Wanna’ by ‘The Vaccines’ and throughout the EP the vocals sound like a cross between Frankie Francis (Frankie & The Heartstrings) and Robbie Coles (The Little Comets). That doesn’t mean that this is bad in anyway, in fact, quite the opposite. It is good to hear brilliant guitar based Indie music making a resurgence in the British music scene.
Whilst the content may not be quite unique and distinctive the EP hurries headlong from one track to another and does manage to leave a lasting impression on the listener. The second track ‘Burn It Down’ was recently chosen for the Secret Garden Party festival but for my money the final track, ‘Shine’, is a more stripped back, almost acoustic affair and is my favourite of the three.
Painkiller EP by Rising Tide is available now and the band are currently busy gigging around London and Brighton whilst building their fan base.

Currently sharing a run down old student house in Hove, Rising Tide home - recorded their first EP 'Painkiller' in 2010, which received overwhelmingly positive reviews;

It's not just the recordings that have drawn wide audiences to them though; having headlined the Prince Albert in Brighton on a few different occasions, they received the praise that Rising Tide are "The best sounding band ever to have played on that stage".
With influences such as Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Biffy Clyro and Jeff Buckley, Rising Tide's sound varies from loud, ballsy guitar rock, to detailed experimental piano-led songs, always with passionate and heartfelt lyrics.
Having just released physical copies of their new single 'Everything Has Changed' - which saw the Prince Albert at capacity at its launch - Rising Tide are attracting widespread attention, and are definitely a band to look out for.
