RIVALRY (formerly known as Gandalf The Grey) is an indie rock trio formed by members Matt Ford (Vocals, Guitar, Keys) and Andy Bell (Drums, Vocals) of a former Sunshine Coast band named Imute in mid 2009. The duo recruited bassist Hayden Knight and from there the journey began. The boys at first jokingly called themselves Gandalf The Grey, making a mockery of what Hayden decided to go as to his school formal, but they got a fair amount of attention sooner than they expected.
Being described as “Nirvana-meets-Pixies-meets-Kings of Leon-meets-Pink Floyd combined with the sound of today’s indie and alternative bands,” the trio now known as Rivalry have maintained a distinct and unique sound for their age.
Only 16 and 17 years of age, the boys have played at quite a few venues since forming including Club Envy, Kings Beach Tavern, The J, Black Box Theatre, The Hive, Music Kafe, and more. The band has also played at several local events such as MASC in the Park, Strawbfest, Raw Sounds, and Relay For Life. The band is currently recording their Debut EP at Vault Studios which will hopefully be set for release in September.
