"Review - 'RaWtentiK' Album"

Rive is the band around singer/songwriter Rivelino Rigters, aka Blackrockstar. The album opens with, don't panic, a cover from Philip Bailey's Easy Lover. The hit with Phil Collins, remember? To pass the test of the music police you'd have to be of fine pedigree in such a case. Rive wonderfully succeeds, particularly because of the raw voice of the frontman. As the album progresses it shows that 'raw' isn't the only phrase applicable to Rigter's voice. In Rachel it's as if Lenny Kravitz himself has taken over the microphone, while Why sounds soulful and fragile. The alternation on this album is the major plus: This time touches Mano Negra and Michael Franti, while Mindbuggin' portraits influences from Dancehall. Despite the large diversity of the songs the album forms a good whole, particularly because the music blends in very well and the gentlemen do not silt in difficulties.” - LiveXS Magazine - Klaas Knooihuizen

"Review - 'RaWtentiK' Album"

“Rive is the Dutch soul/rock/funk formation around Rivelino 'Blackrockstar' Rigters, the tall singer-guitarist with a firm and at the same time heavenly voice. Both sides are generously offered on the debutalbum of this group. So they made a heavy rocking beautycover of Philip Baily's Easy Lover but on Why Rivelino's voice really sounds like Philip. Or as the most gentle Michael Jackson for my part.

And there's also reggae-tinted rock in Hope, or a moving acoustic guitarsong in Best Daddy. Everything's right on this largely selfproduced record. The songs are sharp and fully done, the sound and play are efficient and tight. Next to that the fully drawn albumcover and presentation are from extraordinary, international allure. Therefore Rive is frequently booked abroad, mainly in Italy. Isn't it about time that we also abundantly start to embrace these own musical chameleons?” - Oor Magazine - Kees Smallegange

"Review - 'New Day' EP"

“RIVE is singer-songwriter Rivelino Rigters. Almost 10 years ago he released his first single with his other band `Rivelino'. It is especially Rivelino's warm, weathered voice that hitches into your memory. Sometimes it seems just as if you hear Lenny Kravitz sing. Remarkable detail: Rivelino has a very low speaking voice but in the fragile Why he proves that his reach is also very high. His singing qualities have grown with the years. ”

"Review - Takin' Up My Chances"

13th of August 2005

According to online resources a full album is on it's way. But first we'll have to do with the appetizer 'Takin' Up My Chances'. With his first single 'Pull Yourself 2gether' he already managed to make ends meet and this time Rivelino also takes advantage of the opportunity with this new single. 4 songs that show portray his rock side; in which he puts his R&B talents on a lower level. He opens strong with the Living Colour like 'Taking Up My Chances'.

In “Heaven meets the ground” his singing transforms into rapping that here and there lacks a bit of feeling while the guitarrifs and the drumbeats on the contrary are rocking and very worthwile. In this song Rivelino is clearly looking for love with the words: “I don’t wanna be alone/ writing to you another song/ love can make the world go round/ and bring us to a stay where heaven meets the ground”. Rivelino can be booked at Blackrockstar.com

In the funkrock song “Saw me”, guitarist Jay-P Beijersbergen treats us with a very tasteful guitarsolo, which gives the song even more class and appeal. What really makes this single stand out for me and worth the while is the last and also acoustic ballad “Best Daddy”. With this song he proves that he's multi usuable, as with his full band, with an acoustic session or even just him alone with his guitar sitting on a barstool or around a campfire. He ends this single with "I try to be the best....and if I ever do you wrong, just remind me of this song". A serious promise that he will fulfill because Rivelino is a guy with a serious goal in front of him! - GM Radio - Fred Berghuis

"Review - Takin' Up My Chances"

2004

Rivelino is a Dutch Christian band that makes music that contains elements of rock, rap, soul and funkrock. So everyone will find something that they will like on this four track single. Rivelino Rigters is the leadsinger and also plays some rhythm and acoustic guitar. He is a Surinam guy and is born in Amsterdam. All his live it was obvious that he was born to make music and here is the result.

The title song is a nice melodic rocker that reminds me of Lenny Kravitz and Living Colour. Second out "Heaven meets the ground" is the toughest song on this single and has some heavy guitars and bassloops in it. Also there a rap-parts in it with backing vocalist Gemma Cabrera. "Saw me" continues and is a funky rocker. In the midsection there is a whispered vocal part that smells DC Talk all over it and it flows over in a great guitarsolo by Jay-P Beijersbergen, who also co-produced this single. The acoustic ballad "Best daddy" finishes this nice single. An interesting band this Rivelino and i don?t just say this cauze it?s a band from my country. So if you like something different for a change then you should surf over to their website and check ?em out! - Melodic.net - Cor Jan Kat

"Review – 'RaWtentiK Album'"

25th of April 2009

Rivelino Rigters is the heart of the band Rive (pronounced Reef). After years of working as a solo-artist he decided to join forces with Michael Coomans (guitar), Dimitri Vijber (bass) and Sammy de Fretes (drums) at the end of 2007. Rive was born and not without success. After several performances and bandcontests there was an Italian tour, they were chosen as Serious Talent at Radio 3FM. After an ep and 3 singles now they finally have released their debut album 'RaWtentiK'.

Altough their roots are urban, on this album the emphasis has been laid on the rockpart, or a good blend of that.

'RaWtentiK' is a coalescence of raw and authentic. Opening song is a cover of Phil Collin's 'Easy Lover', brought in a characteristic manner. The softsoul is also brought to table in 'Rachel'. Very sensible Rigters sings in the song 'Why', beautifully backed by guitar. The band shows it's best side during 'New Day' ; very hitsensitive with a dynamic sound. There's alot of experimenting with styles in Mindbuggin' where it seems as if they were looking to put as much as possible in 3 minutes. Also reggae influences aren't absent on the album ; in the song 'Hope' they're clearly present. 'Kawina Rebel' gives us the cheerful and upbeat work. Just like in 'Why', 'Best Daddy' is another sensitive song by Rivelino.

Concluding we can say that Rive's debut album 'RaWtentik' has succeeded in it's goal : the songs are varied and wil surely appeal to the audience. Although the greater part can be named 'urban', the rock influences are more than complimentary and the whole is very well mixed to a unique sound. One can clearly hear the band's enthusiasm, all in all this is a fine debut of this foursome.

Bio

RIVELINO alias Blackrockstar had the art of music woven in his soul while still resting in his mother's womb. RIVELINO played in several bands and had more than occasional appearances on tv and radio throughout the years. 2001 was the year in which many doors opened for RIVELINO as a singer/songwriter/rapper. He decided to form his own band under the monniker "RIVELINO" and he performed throughout the Netherland. He started his victory lapse by winning the Heineken Heidepop Award in 2002, got in 2nd place at the R&B/HipHop Awards of Gelderland and became runner-up for the Radio 3FM Talent Showcase of Xnoizz Radio. And if that wasn't enough he also won the Funk Battle Awards in Bocholt, Germany.

His musical style is a blend of styles that he prefers to play and listen to, from soul, hip hop and funk, to reggae, rock and worship. Some of his artistic inspiration comes from artists like Michael Tait, Lenny Kravitz, Jimi Hendrix, Ben Harper, John Mayer & Kirk Franklin. His heart lies in using music to touch peoples heart trough the heart of God and build up their lifes by sharing the life lessons that he learned trough trial & error. He gained a lot of experience as an artist too. He did 6 episodes for tv programme D-Lounge, which was aired on Dutch TV, he did 3 solo performances in the Gelredome stadium in Arnhem for a crowd of over 30.000 people during the EO Jongerendag. He shared the stage with artists such as Candy Dulfer, Within Tempation, Barlow Girl, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Kevin Max (DC Talk) and Huub Stapel. RIVELINO also had the privilege of working with producer Evert Nieuwstede, who produced for Golden Earring, Candy Dulfer, Joe Jackson, Billy Preston and Herman Brood. A masterclass of Michael Franti in the summer of 2003 also didn't hurt him either.

RIVELINO was chosen as Serious Talent on Radio 3FM in 2008 which got him daily airplay for 2 months which eventually led to a sold out tour trough Italy hitting cities like Milan, Turin and Rome. A few previous to that he was selected amongst a select few to partake in the "Getalenteerd" project which landed him his first radio jingle that was played 300 times on Radio 538 and FunX, two very popular radio stations in the Netherlands. Next to making music RIVELINO has a big heart for social issues. This is why he has partnered with World Vision (NGO) as a music ambassador for over 5 years, taking him to Africa 3 years in a row, visiting aids-prevention projects and giving musical aids to the hiv orphans in Uganda and Ethiopia.

To further express his social awareness he founded the L.O.U.D. Foundation in 2006, an organisation of which it's main objective is to help underprivileged youths help discover their talents in order to help raise their self esteem. Trough this organisation he sets up and gives talent-development trainings at schools, youth detention centres, boarding schools and youth centres. His main passion next to music is helping people find their place in life! - So there you have it, a man with a big talent and an even bigger heart...Keep your eyes open for RIVELINO's long awaited imprint on this world!
