"River City Hum Novemebr 12 @ The Zoo by Nelson L."

"It isn't often that an opening band rocks harder than the headliner. I went to this show expecting to see a rock 'n' roll show. But what I got was an eye-opening spectacle. The River City Hum played a blend of blues, funk, rock, jazz and classic rock - what comes out as their own blend of high energy, feel good music. This three piece was carried by the overwhelming presence and talent of their frontman. Watch out for these guys and their upcoming EP. Get to them before you're just another groupie jumping on the bandwagon." - Stylus Magazine (Dec. 2004 - Jan. 2005)

"GARAGEBAND.COM USER REVIEWS – DELHI TENTS – NOV 11 2005"

"Finally something that is really cool. You are definitely going on my playlist. Very nice grooves, and the breaks are smooth. The vocalist is Original, different, and refreshing. I really like this song, and I would actually go your show, unlike most of the other trash I hear on this website, you guys are well put together. Y'all should come to Houston sometime and teach some of these people what originality is all about. The drums are excellent, perfectly timed rolls and a great funk beat. The great thing is that you sound like no one."

"CD REVIEW OF "EMBELLISH THE MELODY" by Melody Rogan"

“…Three supremely talented local musicians who have had the opportunity to share their music with audiences at various locations around the city.”…”This album blends funk and soul rhythms with raw vocals to create a laid-back, atmospheric sound. Comparisons can be made to Wide Mouth Mason and a more soulful version of Rage Against the Machine. There are also elements which seem to make the album sound like something out of the early 90’s neo-hippie scene: smooth Bass coupled with guttural Vocals and rhythmic Guitar playing. Stand out tracks include “Up”, “Liquify”, Dice”, and “Absolutely, Northern Lights.” - THE UNITER – SEPT 28th 2006, VOL 61 ISSUE 04

""THE RIVER CITY HUM" by Jonathan Ball"

“I had the pleasure of seeing the River City Hum play last time I visited Winnipeg, witnessing first hand how their collaborative and improvisational spirit translates into a furiously energetic stage show.”…”Embellish The Melody is an excellent showcase of the band’s musical range, and captures much of this live energy.” - STYLUS MAGAZINE – DEC 2006/JAN 2007, VOL 17 NUMBER 6

"CD REVIEW OF “EMBELLISH THE MELODY” by Jeff Monk"

“…The RCH trade on a kind of Primus meets- King Crimson kind of musical complexity that really works. Singer-guitarist Con Gamvrelis eschews being cool for being real and seems happily helpless when it comes to taming his, at times, wild vocals. His guitar playing in on fire with familiar influences too numerous to mention, yet he remains rather unique.”…”Embellish the Melody is funky, driving and interesting — it doesn’t get much better than that.” - THE WINNIPEG FREE PRESS – SATURDAY DEC 16, 2006

Bio

Adopting the name of their hometown, The River City Hum is a trio of Winnipeg musicians who have been making music together since late 2002. Each of the members comes from very diverse musical backgrounds. What became of these diverse influences is something that even the band, and their fans, find difficult to describe. Their exotic/eclectic Rock sound fuses Folk, Blues, Funk, Country, Latin, and Jazz grooves, with a foundation in loud rock music, leaving any listener wondering just what exactly they will hear next. The band has captured the attention of a large, diverse loyal fan base, which was no doubt drawn by their unique sound and vibrant, energetic live show.

It is rare that a three-piece arrangement pumps out such a massive, full-bodied sound. Front man, guitarist/vocalist Constantine Gamvrelis is the driving force behind the band, with bassist Jesse Boxer-Meyrowitz and drummer Adam Rossi holding down the rhythm section. While each member’s musical tastes differ in style, the band has found a common ground in their distinctive cross-blend of musical influences. They have indeed found their musical niche.

Keeping busy over the past three years hasn’t been a challenge for the band; they’ve played nearly every stage – and more than their fair share of “floors” – in the city. They have released a debut 5-song EP, “Gallery” in early 2005, and in April 2006 their latest disc, "Embellish the Melody", was released. "Gallery" was recorded with Brent Smith (High Five Drive) of Proletariat Recording and "Embellish the Melody" was recorded with Brent, & Jason Gordon (54-40, Nickelback) of Studio 11.

Highlights for the band include a thunderous ovation at 2005’s Winnipeg Folk Festival, and opening for such local favorites as The New Meanies and The Scott Nolan Band. In January & March 2006, The Hum were featured on Freq 107’s the Buzz. They also have become a local favorite to the staff and audience of the station. Looking forward to 2007, RCH are in pre-production with Canadian heavy-weight producer Paul James (The New Meanies, Men in Kilts) for their third EP release.

…Stay tuned…
