"RIVERSYDE To Perform At Indie Music Fest In Las Vegas"

RIVERSYDE To Perform At Indie Music Fest In Las Vegas
Submitted by Artlaurent88 on April 11, 2012 - 04:59

Alternative rock band RIVERSYDE was selected as one of the forty bands that will perform at The annual Indie Music Fest, April 27-28, 2012, at The Henderson Pavilion in Las Vegas.

This two day competition will have the best unsigned indie artists selected from across the country. Two lucky artists will walk the Red Carpet at The 22nd annual Los Angeles Music Awards event and each will receive a Producers Choice Award for their achievements.

In a recent interview with Elk Grove Citizen, the band said their combination of influences makes up a sound that is a blend of grunge-rock from the 1990s, and 1980s hard rock and progressive rock. “If you like our CD you will definitely like our live show…we have a lot of energy,” said lead guitarist Paul Devassy.

RIVERSYDE is #3 on the Austin alternative charts on ReverbNation and a featured artist on Unsigned Top Charts. The band released their debut album, See Us Now, on March 31, 2012 at Lucky Lounge in Austin. The 16-track CD ranges from soulful ballads, to rock, to an even heavier sound. See Us Now was recorded at Arlyn Studios in the heart of downtown Austin. The album was mastered by Ben Blank, founder of Ben Blank Audio. His work has received seven gold records, Austin Addy Awards, and Billboard Top Ten success.

The track “What’s Love About” will be used in DIRECTV’s documentary, Gone Until December. XT50 Fitness, an online fitness program, will feature “Gravity” in their workouts. “Knocking On My Door” received radio play on Off the Chart Radio, the Internet’s #1 hit music station. Watch RIVERSYDE’s music video for “Knocking On My Door.”

Maximum Threshold, an internet radio show dedicated to presenting up and coming hard rock bands, will be streaming the track “Nothing At All” on their show. Other tracks will be featured on The Austinot, a blog and podcast about all things Austin.

The band released a four-song self-titled EP in April 2011. “On their debut EP, Shane Blake’s awesome vocals sound older than his young face seems capable of, but the lyrics, melodies and guitars support his deep growl with expertise,” said Starr Tucker, NY Waste, Music Reviews.

RIVERSYDE performed at The Heart of Texas Rockfest in downtown Austin and has played in clubs across Texas. The band also promoted See Us Now in Boston. “The album is very personal,” said lead singer Shane Blake. “We put a lot of ourselves into our music. My ‘90s rock voice, our ‘80s classic rock guitarist, hardcore drummer, and progressive bass player provide something for everyone. It’s all alternative to us.”

RIVERSYDE is an alternative rock band based out of Austin, Texas that formed in the fall of 2010. The four-member band is made up of lead singer Shane Blake, drummer Mark Griffor, lead guitarist Paul Devassy, and bassist Christian Palacio. They have appeared in Bass Musician Magazine, Southside Times, INsite Magazine, South Asian Insider, and other publications. RIVERSYDE’s purpose as a band is to share their love of music and passion for life with the world, one city at a time.

"RIVERSYDE RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM WITH PROGRESSIVE BASS PLAYER CHRISTIAN PALACIO"

RIVERSYDE Releases Debut Album With Progressive Bass Player Christian Palacio… Alternative rock band RIVERSYDE will release their debut album, See Us Now, on March 31, 2012 at Lucky Lounge. The album is available for pre-order at www.riversyde.com.

RIVERSYDE is #4 on the Austin alternative charts on ReverbNation.

RIVERSYDE’s bassist, Christian Palacio, is a native Texan who grew up in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania before moving back to Texas at the age of 16. He started playing the violin during middle school, but began teaching himself how to play bass guitar during his senior year of high school.

“Rush’s Signals and Marillion’s Misplaced Childhood albums were a huge influence on me, both lyrically and musically. Misplaced Childhood came out just as I had moved from PA to TX and I took a lot of comfort listening to that album,” Christian remembers. ”Bassists like Geddy and Pete, as well as Chris Squire also showed me that the bass can take a more melodic role within a song to provide either a counter melody to the guitar or carry a section of a song with the guitar taking a supporting, rhythmic approach.”

The band has played in clubs across Texas and most recently promoted See Us Now in Boston. RIVERSYDE is scheduled to take the stage at The Heart of Texas Rockfest in downtown Austin on March 17, 2012.

"Elk Grove drummer makes his way in Texas"

Elk Grove drummer makes his way in Texas

Drummer Mark Griffor, 19, left Elk Grove in 2009 shortly after studying at Ehrhardt Elementary School.

He was in line to attend Harriet Eddy Middle School when his family decided to make a career move to the booming business city of Austin.

The small city to big city relocation was certainly a change for the Elk Grove native.

But a chance meeting from answering an online ad would soon catapult Griffor’s career as a musician into another direction; one that would automatically lead him to becoming the drummer for the Austin alternative rock band Riversyde – which will be releasing their debut album later this month.

“I answered a random ad on Craigslist within four months of me moving to Austin…I did one audition and [Shane] Blake (Riversyde’s lead singer) picked me up,” he said. “Everything just clicked perfectly when I tried out.”

Soon after Griffor joined Blake, guitarist Paul Devassy, and bassist Christian Palacio joined them and Riversyde was born.

The band’s combination of influences makes up a sound that is a blend of grunge-rock from the 1990s, and 1980s hard rock and progressive rock.

Picture vocals similar to that of Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas mixed with dynamic drum rhythms, and the heavy, “big” sound of guitar and bass put forth by such bands as Van Halen and Bon Jovi – and you have the basis of the band’s vibe.

The band’s song, “What’s Love About” will be used in DirecTV’s documentary, Gone Until December, and it currently ranks as the four band on the Austin alternative charts on the popular music website, ReverbNation.com.

Griffor, a drummer since the age of 4, began practicing the drums through the influence of his father who also a musician.

“There were two requirements when my sister and I were born,” he said. “One was that we be bilingual (in Spanish) and the other was that we had to play an instrument.”

While many young drummers of Griffor’s age praise many popular percussionists from the 1980s and ‘90s, he instead drew inspiration from classic jazz and early rock and roll.

“I go way back to drummers like Bobby Rich and Gene Krupa…a lot of ‘30s and ‘40s jazz,” he said. “Those guys pretty much started everything I do now…they are the grandfathers of modern drumming.”

He added, “I also really respect a lot of the ‘50s rock and roll drummers…back in those days there was no AutoTune or overdubbing – everyone had to be tight.”

Riversyde is currently preparing to release their first album, See Us Now on March 31.

The album - composed of original music written mostly by Blake - will be a combination of the band’s influences; they promise that not one song sounds like the other.

“We’re taking all of our backgrounds and putting them into this one album,” he said. “So you’re not going to get an album where every song sounds the same…which is unique these days.”

Although Griffor works a retail job by day, he mentioned that the band funds all of their own expenses - making Riversyde a “full-time job” for all of them.

The band will be launching a tour of select cities after the album is released, one of which may be Elk Grove.

“I still have lots of friends who live in Elk Grove,” Griffor said.

Devassy said, “If you like our CD you will definitely like our live show…we have a lot of energy.”

As for Griffor’s advice to local young musicians who would like to further their careers in music?

“Keep on playing…don’t ever stop trying,” he said.

Bio

Riversyde...is an alternative rock band based out of Austin, Texas. The four member band is made up of lead singer Shane Blake, drummer Mark Griffor, lead guitarist Paul Devassy and bassist Christian Palacio.

The songs on their debut CD are as varied and dynamic as the Austin skyline. It reflects RIVERSYDE’s alternative rock style, but features a range of musical sounds from ‘90s grunge vocals and rhythm guitar, to high energy drums and progressive bass.

“From heartbreak to relaxing on the beach or driving with the top down, this CD has a track that will fit your mood", said Paul Devassy, lead
guitarist.

"My ‘90s rock voice, our ‘80s classic rock guitarist, hardcore drummer, and progressive bass player provide something for everyone. It’s all alternative to us", adds singer and rhythm guitarist, Shane Blake.

Like the music, the members are varied and come from all walks of life, but their love for music is the common ground. Listeners are drawn in by Blake's insightful lyrics and soulful voice. Mark and Christian complement each other well as the band's rhythmic duo and are the locomotive force behind the songs. Paul's guitar playing varies from melodic and soulful on the softer songs to blazing solos and biting riffs on the high energy material.

The band describes the tone of the album as one of longing and remembrance. Common themes in the songs include: heartbreak, reminiscing on the past, closure, and raw emotion. With emotive power ballads, high energy riffs, catchy hooks, and a frenetic rhythm section, RIVERSYDE is capable of a wide range of textures and is reminiscent of Matchbox Twenty, Pearl Jam, Fuel, Chris Daughtry, and Live.
