My songs are both personal and abstract. I try not to say too much and leave space for interpretation. If you are into lyrics, you'll hear a lot of "spirtual" themes, particularly Buddhist ideas. At the same time, I don't write "message songs". Just what occurs to me to sing about, that's all.

Biography

My influences are diverse, including The Beatles, David Bowie, Harry Nilsson, Aimee Mann, Neil Finn, Adrian Belew and everything else where I can find songs with depth and character. I've been playing music since my mid-teens and have played with various local bands, but never for very long. I'm trying to actually complete an entire CD of tunes, completely self-produced with me performing the majority of the parts. It's a lot of work! ;-)

I am a "devout" Tibetan Buddhist, so that influences me lyrically. Some of my songs could almost be called "Buddhist Rock" (hey, why not?). I try to avoid "message songs"; I'm not interested in convincing anyone of anything, just explaining what my world view is, how I feel about things. If someone else feels that way, that's great. If not, not, I don't mind.

Right now I just have the goal of selling a song or two for whatever use (album, film/tv, whatever) and make enough money to NEVER WORK AGAIN! Is that possible from Binghamton, NY? ;-)

Maybe not. I'll try anyway.

Lyrics

While I Can

Written By: Robert J. Bullock

I was born in the Summer of love,
'67 was quite enough,
To show us how life ought to be.
And though the world was filled with pain,
We danced right through that Summer rain,
Yeah we danced to our divinity.

I'm telling you while I can,
You mean so much to me,
I'm telling you while I can.
I'm saying it while you're here,
You've been so go to me,
I'm telling you while I can.

I have known some troubled days,
But you always showed the way,
To live with love, with hope and dignity.
And because we never know,
When our time has come to go,
I'll tell you now,
While you're here with me.

I'm telling you while I can,
You mean so much to me,
I'm telling you while I can.
I'm saying it while you're here,
You've been so go to me,
I'm telling you while I can.

And you have always been a mirror
Showing me what I believe
I want to make this so much clearer.

I'm telling you while I can,
You mean so much to me,
I'm telling you while I can.
I'm saying it while you're here,
You've been so go to me,
I'm telling you while I can.

I'm telling you while I can,
Yes, I'm saying it,
While you're here.

Passage

Written By: Robert J. Bullock

Turning sixteen
A weed in the woods
Somewhere between
Will, should and could.
Taking a chance
Gathering soul
Wasting our days
Digging a hole.

Looking back on your life
Figure the score
Not playing for fame
But you won't be ignored.

Shadow and light
Moments of doubt
The impulse to fight
Is over and out.
Friends, we forget
All that we lost
The water beneath
The bridges we cross.

Looking back on your life
Figure the score
Not playing for fame
But you won't be ignored.

Miracle cures
The devil's delight
Cosmic charade
Come join the parade!
Out looking in
With a wink and a grin
Come gather in sin
The meek never win.

Looking back on your life
Figure the score
Not playing for fame
But you won't be ignored

No, you won't be ignored.
