Bio

The "Byrd House Sound" developed during a period when heart-on-your-sleeve, punk-infused Heartland Rock-n-Roll, played by working-class romantics, was not on the overwrought indie rock radar. The hipster scene was in full swing and this raw and undefined musical experiment was still being forged in garages and basements across the mid-west. Jeff Byrd & The Wingmen slugged it out on stage converting fans with their rust-belt, Springsteen meets The Replacements inspired lyrics, and guitar roar fueled by the two Bobs...Stinson and Mould, (ala Husker Du and Sugar)! While other bands mined their own successful version of this genre , like Marah, The Hold Steady, Lucero, and Indy locals Old Pike; Byrd & The Wingmen played sweaty Americana bar-rock to dedicated friends and local fans. The band hit it's stride by opening for national artist, Matthew Ryan, and placing 2nd in The Indianapolis Star sponsered "Video Throwdown". We closed up shop NOT due to musical differences, but due to busy lives, dedication to family, and trying to pay the bills. While defunct for a few years, Byrd's songs and music kept fermenting. The recipe was reborn and refined. Like a good local beer, it has a flavor all it's own. So we decided to see if the engine would turn over, and see how far this piece of American muscle will run! People think you have to be young and hungary to be in this Rock-n-Roll thing, but we are weathered Rock survivors, with a bonfire in our guts, starving to death! The times are right for this music. Everyone is looking for something real and earnest. We all want to believe Rock-n-Roll can save our souls. It's evidenced by the rise of bands like The Gaslight Anthem, Cheap Girls, The Killers, and Japandroids. This is the hardcore heartland that we have been toiling in, waiting for our season waiting, for the harvest. So thanks for reading through the hopeless romantic Rock-n-Roll Hype...what's that you ask? "What is your music like?"
That's simple......it's the "Byrd House Sound!"
