"Road Kill Roy Press Kit"

Remember something called original music? Remember seeing it performed three feet away from your face? Do you remember the very first time you heard live original music that sent tingles down your spine…so damn good sounding, you just knew the band would be famous one day? Well, that’s Road Kill Roy – just take away the famous and touring around the country part (because we all have families and day jobs). We do this because it’s fun, nothing more, nothing less. We delight in seeing our fans enjoy our original music – and as a musician there’s nothing better than seeing somebody in the crowd mouthing the lyrics to one of your songs while you’re playing it!

Four part harmonies? Acoustic and electric guitars? Drums, bass and organs? Yup, that’s us. We are an original band with a strong focus on Roots / Americana style Rock, that kind of sounds like a weird cross between The Black Crowes, Ben Folds Five, and Wilco. Imagine taking the best musical styles of the past 30 years and combining them all into one young original band, and you get Road Kill Roy. A tasty blend of music that can go from “damn baby, I love you” all the way to “dude, I think I’m gonna’ get these guys to play at our tailgate party” in one set. I think our band is best described by a bartender from a show we performed in the summer of 2009…

”It was really cool, the bar line was more than ten people deep, and when you guys started playing everybody just sort of stopped… and you saw this kind of ‘wow-ish awestruck’ look on everybody’s faces, and you could tell what they were thinking - ‘who are these guys… they’re really good!’”

We have played pretty much everywhere that you can think in Richmond, but some of our more recent performances have included:

17th Street Marketplace“Red, White, and Brew Festival”
The City of Richmond“Shockoe on the Halfshell Oyster Festival”
Venture Richmond’s “CAA Basketball Tournament” at The Richmond Coliseum
Richmond’s Flying Squirrels, pregame show atThe Diamond
The National Theater July 28th & September 10th(Opening for “Stockholm Syndrome” with members from Widespread Panic and Government Mule)
Carytown’s 27th Annual Watermelon Festival October 8th
Buffalo Wild Wings’ “Happy Hour Patio summer concert series”
Capital Ale House (downtown music hall) January 8th
The Tobacco CompanyFebruary 4th

As illustrated by the above, we can easily cater our show to fit the needs of any size venue – whether you’re a downtown festival with a monstrous outdoor stage and 5,000 people in attendance, or a small cozy little bar that barely fits 50 people, we would still love to come and play for you.
