Brooklyn-based artist ROB Rise On Belief (AKA Rob Hoagland) is on a mission to ascend and inspire. Growing up in a musical family, Hoagland’s artist name was chosen because “when people hear the Name ROB Rise On Belief, it will influence them to grow and achieve all their goals.” ROB Rise On Belief has been releasing original music since 2010 with the release of a self-titled album, and in 2022 his second full-length project became available – the eight-track album titled Bright Fame.
There are many contributors to Hoagland’s band aside from himself on lead vocals. It includes. Mark (Abishai) Brooks (bass, musical director), Kent Thompson (guitars). Daniel D Drums (drums), Jules Drucker (guitars), and James BX (keys). The group has created a pop/rock album that is impressively versatile and comprehensive regarding their impressive abilities.
HERE’S WHAT WE DUG MOST…
The album opens strongly with When Susie Puts On Her Makeup. Complex drum riffs give way to layers of electric guitar, creating an energetic and rock-forward sonic landscape. Hoagland’s voice has an element of pop-punk inflection in this track, delivered with intensity and brightness that cuts cleanly through the instrumentation. From the first track, it’s clear that the band assembled not only has top-notch chops, but the members also blend well together and have great cohesion that elevates their sound.
We find many of these elements appearing consistently across the album. Give Me Your Love leans to the pop side of pop-rock with its infectious, sing-song melody. There are clear instances of soul and even funk influence at times, with rich moments of vocal harmonies deftly placed throughout.
By the album’s third track, it’s clear that ROB Rise On Belief can thrive in any genre he chooses to work in. Fly Away takes us in a Latin/R&B fusion direction, blending strummy guitars with thrumming percussion. This is a testament to Hoagland’s vocal ability as well – he has a commanding ability over his vocal tone, allowing him to fit seamlessly into various genres, which is no small feat.
The group’s artistic range expands even further as slide guitar and some innate twang make their way into Music Saved My Soul. This Americana anthem feels like Darius Rucker meets a gospel choir, combining complex vocal moments with the pure musical simplicity of an acoustic-based genre. Not Anymore brings many of the same elements to mind. Still, this time it’s executed in a much more bluesy, swampy way (which again features an impressive performance from the chameleon-like vocals of Hoagland).
We also love the foot-stomping energy of Walk On The Other Side and the return to crunchy rock roots in the album’s closing track, Interlude.
OUR FAVORITE TRACK…
The band’s most compelling performance arrives towards the conclusion of the album. Mirror Mirror is a high-octane hard rock track, hard-hitting in both execution and composition. It’s full of heavily effective guitars, gritty vocals, and memorable riffs that you’ll find replaying in your head long after the song concludes. It’s also one of the best examples of lyric writing on the album; despite the intensity of the track, there is subtlety and clear messaging in the song’s word choice:
“You know what
My reflections that you’re showing me
Are so full of your lies
This delusion you try to conceive
Does not express what I believe.”
IN CONCLUSION…
Dynamic, multifaceted, and engaging. This is an album that truly has something for everyone. If you’re looking for an artist on the rise with endless potential, look no further than the genre-blending work of ROB Rise On Belief on Bright Fame. Stream this exceptional album for yourself below.

Q: Great to be speaking with you, Rob! Your roots are in the Brooklyn, NY area – do you think growing up in one of the country’s biggest musical cities influenced your growth as an artist?
A: Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, has influenced my growth as an artist. Brooklyn is a giant melting pot full of different cultures and music. And in the neighborhoods I grew up in, Ocean Hill Brownsville, Bushwick, Flatbush, Bedford Stuyvesant, Crown Heights, Park Slope, and Clinton Hill, you can hear the gospel, rock, R&B, salsa, reggae, jazz, classical, disco, and hip-hop played in each neighborhood. And these different styles of music play a significant part in how I express myself through my lyrics. I have to say I am so fortunate to have been born in a city with such incredible diversity in music.
Q: “Bright Fame” is your second full-length release. Do you feel your sound and style have evolved since your release of “Rise On Belief” in 2010?
A: My sound and style are more profound, gritty, and emotional because of situations in the past ten years. And it has become more enlightening and a little dark as well. And all these changes in my style that occurred in the last ten years have helped me create my best work to date.
Q: How long did “Bright Fame” take to record, and how was the experience recording at Avatar Studios?
A: It took two days to record “Bright Fame,” and recording at Avatar Studios, now known as Powerstation, was incredible. As soon as the band and I walked into the studio, Tino Passante, the studio manager, was there to greet us. And we could feel the energy of the most excellent musicians and singers who came before us. It is such a beautiful studio with many different recording rooms. But two of my favorite rooms were studio A, and Studio B. Studio A is where they recorded Orchestras and soundtracks, and artists like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton recorded in this room. We recorded “Bright Fame” in studio B, a spectacular space; Chic, Madonna, Luther Vandross, and Bjork recorded in this studio. They had top-notch boards, excellent drums, powerful microphones, and the perfect atmosphere to allow your musical talents to flow. The engineers were great, the front desk people were terrific, the breakroom had all the good snacks, and we felt like A-list celebrities. But the most significant overall experience was having my mom, a professional photographer, take some fantastic photos of the band and me as we were recording. And to see my mom being so proud of me was priceless. And this memory will stay with me forever because a year after recording “Bright Fame,” my mom passed away from breast cancer. The whole experience of recording at Avatar Studios, now known as Powerstation, will always be one of the most incredible experiences in my recording career.
Q: Your songs tell complex and relatable stories designed to inspire. What is your songwriting process?
A: My songwriting process begins with situations in my life, other people’s experiences, what is happening in the world today, and sometimes the sounds of nature. And when these things touch me, I’ll start to sing a melody in my recorder, take a pen, and write words to my tune. Or sometimes, I would write a poem and turn it into a song. But most of the time, my songwriting process takes place at 1- 5 am because that is when my home is nice and quiet. I can concentrate on writing a powerful song, and then I create my melody on my pro-tools; next, I get my band together, and we start to put the music to my songs.
Q: Perhaps in some unspecified amount of time, your musical career explodes in the best ways. What does that look like for you?
A: It looks like me walking across the Grammy Awards stage, collecting my Grammy awards and going on a world tour, opening up my production company, and writing and producing for other artists.
Q: You get to collaborate with anyone of your choosing. Who is it?
A: I would like to collaborate with Lenny Kravitz.
Q: Your favorite album of all time? (Yup, you have to choose one.)
A: My favorite album of all time is “Songs In The Key Of Life” by Stevie Wonder.
Q: Your favorite song of all time? (Again, only one!)
A: My favorite song is “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by Tears For Fears.
Q: What would you like fans to know about you that they’re most likely unaware of?
A: I want the fans to know that green is my favorite color, and I am a vegetarian.
Q: Any shout-outs you want to make?
A: I want to send shout-outs to my manager Jeff Crews, and my music partner Mark Abishai Brooks. My Band, Avatar Studios, now known as Powerstation, Naika Cadet of my PR team EMPKT, my mom and dad Carolyn and Louis Hoagland, my wife Mia Hoagland, my family and friends, my higher power, all my fans, and the video shows and podcasts and radio stations who played my music and interviewed me. Thank you all for your support.
Q: Anything else you’d like to add?
A: I want to add a quote I wrote many years ago: “Your dreams are your key to reality. Follow them and you shall be free.” I Am ROB Rise On Belief. - The Ark Of Music

ROB’S Review from ALL ACCESS MAGAZINE
ROB
"Rise On Belief"
Style (Rock)
Influences of rock and R&B permeate throughout this CD with the general sound rather reminiscent of Lenny Kravitz. Coincidentally, ROB too is African American which in itself isn't helping to create enough separation from Mr.Kravitz sound and popularity. Attempting to pull away from contemporary similarities I found the songs to have plenty of solid guitar work, excellent vocals (lead and backing), and a good groove reverberating from quality musicianship. As for the artwork, some CD's I'm left shaking my head wondering why. Aside from the cover image, which fits well with the music style on this CD. This has me wondering about the core "in the blood" rhythms ROB as a musician has or if this disk was produced to take advantage of the similarities between ROB and Kravitz sound. - All Access Magazine
ROB Rise on Belief If Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Kravitz somehow had a love child and let the Red Hot Chili Peppers raise it, ROB would be it. These are some big names to compare a new artist to, but ROB is every bit deserving of such accolades. ROB’s debut album Rise on Belief starts out with the song “Freedom,” which has guitar stylings, and even vocals, that sound like ROB directly channeled Hendrix, and Hendrix complied. Although there is a definite reminiscence of Jimi Hendrix in ROB’s songs, there isn’t the feeling that ROB is simply trying to imitate Hendrix’s sound. It often happens that artist who can easily be compared to other artists tend to be void of a sound of their own, and instead just come across as wanting to be that artist. ROB manages to avoid falling into being just a Hendrix knock-off and have a distinct style of his own. While the instrumental aspect of ROB’s music tends towards Hendrix, ROB has a voice very similar to that of Lenny Kravitz, although with more of an edge to it. Both artists have a raw quality to their voices that adds power to their vocals, but where Kravitz’s voice tends to have some smoothness to it, ROB’s has a gravelly roughness that actually plays on the ear quite nicely. Having guitar similar to Hendrix and vocals similar to Kravitz, listeners can already expect an aural pleasure. Throw in just a dash of Red Hot Chili Peppers to both the instrumentals and vocals (particularly the styling on backing vocals), and you get the sound of ROB—a truly exceptional blend of already familiar styles that results in something new and thoroughly enjoyable to listen to. Particular standouts on the album include “Freedom,” “When I Have You (By My Side),” and “The Chosen One,” but from the first track to the last, Rise on Belief is an excellent listening experience. Everything about the music itself fits together perfectly, with heartfelt lyrics to match. Rise on Belief is definitely an album to check out. ROB, Rise On Belief
July 6, 2010By Skope
Rise On Belief (ROB) is ready to take the music world by storm with his hot debut album. This NYC artist mixes it up with some classic rock and hard rock grooves that will get you pumped up from start to finish. You will also hear elements of soul & funk that comes across as a solid effort & listen.
This brand new record actually debuted in the top 20 on the Independent Music Charts and the single “Freedom” debuted at 41 on the top 50 singles independent music charts. The track “Freedom” is actually a Jimi Hendrix song that ROB covered as the opening number on the CD. I would say that ROB did the classic song & artist major justice as he and his bandmates just went all out here. Some of ROB’s other musical influences include: Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Living Colour, Lenny Kravitz and Red Hot Chili Peppers. ROB’s wide range of musical tastes adds up to the BIG & DIVERSE sound that this disc displays.
I have to mention that there are some amazing musicians backing up the lead singer here that will not go unnoticed. Two aspects really stood out to me and that would be the hard rock guitar solos & riffs along with ROB’s power-punch vocals. I just loved the overall rockin’ flavor/feel that is being played and I can’t seem to get enough of it. With more rock than you can handle, it’s ironic that the title track actually exhibits more of a mellow approach. ROB & company decided to take it down a level on “Rise On Belief” leaving behind their rock goodness but just for a second. This may shock a listener to hear a completely different change of pace ¾ through the album but this did not surprise me at all. Reason being is because I get ROB and what he’s trying to do with his music, which is not to associate any titles with this artist. Keep it fresh ‘n’ eclectic always is what ROB is all about, so no other category needed.
ROB is on his way with this new record and I see a promising future ahead for this rocked out singer/performer. ROB is ready to take a bite out of the Big Apple & beyond, so get up off your seats and Rise On Belief! For more info, SKOPE out www.robriseonbelief.com.

Glamorous is a word that comes to mind when first hearing the debut from this New York City frontman. The second word is positive message. I might be wrong on both accounts, but it's hard to deny that ROB & his band is aiming for a breakthrough into the mainstream commercial landscape & not eternal garage band status with a highly polished & intricate sound melding hard rock &funk sensibilities with a big city groove. & his songs seem to share a positive message & vibe, even in the choice of the Hendrix cover 'Freedom'. There's enough variety in his songs that it's obvious ROB doesn't want to be pidgeon-holed, albeit, if anything, he wants to be pidgeon-holed as a high energy powerhouse of an artist putting lots of ideas & enthusiasm into his music. I guess that's not too bad of a thing to be pidgeon-holed for! Further, that's probably one of his biggest assets, as at times the band over powers & draws focus away from his singing - which might be more the fault of the mixing - & one starts to wonder how much of the music is reflective of Rob Hoagland & how much is a producer's creation of what he wants ROB to be. Whose ever ideas are in the air, ROB's vocals have such energy you know he's a creative force of his own. Behind his singing out such lyrics as "I am the chosen one, I will fight .... like the sun, I bring the light" is music aiming for a big impact with a chorus & lots of guitar solos & fills. 'The Chosen One' actually reminds me a bit of KISS when they performed with a symphony. Big & bold & at times a little messy. In many ways ROB even has a very New York sound, which is something many might say doesn't exist, compared to a San Francisco, sound, until you hear ROB & know that the sound is big, textured & a little funky & a little raw. It's a mix of cultures like the city, balancing the wall between individuality & group popularity. The only thing missing from this album to make it perfect is legendary New Yorkers funkmaster T.M. Stevens or Joe Lynn Turner on backing vocals. Then it would really be big & bold & at times a little messy. ROB also wears some of his influences on his sleeve. His advertising quotes the Rolling Stones as a strong influence, alongside Kravitz, the Chili Peppers & Hendrix, but as someone whose heard every Rolling Stone album I don't know where they are in ROB's music, but I will say that the Kravitz influence is right with a bit of 80's funk made famous by the Chili's. ROB is one of those musicians who I believe probably sounds better on stage & I wouldn't mind seeing the next time he's in the area, so I can add to this review that what you hear is only part of the story & the flash & polish is as much alive onstage away from a producer's watchful eye. - Aaron Joy

Bio
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, to a family that celebrated the arts, ROB Rise On Belief frontman Robert Hoagland's destiny was to be a performer from an earlier age. Motivated by his uncle, John Blount, a founding member of the 50s doo-wop group, The Delroy's. And influenced by his late mother, photographer Carolyn Hoagland, the singer-songwriter cites both people as his core inspiration for shaping him into the entertainer he is today.
After graduating from the prestigious Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, where he studied opera and vocal techniques, ROB Rise On Belief gained the proper education to pursue his dream. And formed his band in 2012 in New York City; the seven-piece rock band consists of the lead singer Robert Hoagland (ROB Rise On Belief), drummer Daniel D. Drums, keyboardist BX, bassist Mark "Abishai" Brooks, and guitarists Jules Drucker, and Kent Thompson. ROB Rise On Belief combined eclectic sounds of rock, and soul with hints of the 1970s and 80s flair, creating a distinctive sound all his own.
ROB Rise On Belief has performed on some of the most legendary stages throughout New York, including the famed Apollo Theater, Webster Hall, CBGBs, The Knitting Factory, The Cutting Room, SOBs, Arlene's Grocery, and Club Amazura. And he rocked out at a sold-out crowd at the Dewey Beach Music Festival. Dewey Beach music festival was one of ROB Rise On Belief's best shows, he was able to network with many bands, and he greeted and signed autographs with the fans and sold out most of his CDs and merch. But the most memorable and most challenging performance was ROB Rise On Belief rocking out at the Apollo Theater. Being on the stage where legends like James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Hall and Oates, Jimi Hendrix, Little Richard, Roberta Flack, and The Jackson Five had performed was utterly mind-boggling. ROB Rise On Belief channeled the energy of all these performers and gave the show of alife time. Because if you don't rock the house at the Apollo theater, the crowd will boo you off the stage, and being a featured band for that night, he knew the band had to dig deep and give all they had. When ROB Rise On Belief walked on the stage and started singing Freedom by the legendary Jimi Hendrix, the crowd stood on their feet. They started dancing and singing along with ROB, and at that very moment, he knew he had conquered one of the most challenging crowds in entertainment history. Once he finished his set, the crowd gave him a standing ovation.
ROB Rise On Belief is gearing up to release his new album, "BRIGHT FAME," on June 17, 2022. The album is mixed and mastered by the world-known engineer Fred Kevorkian. Kevorkian engineered for The White Stripes, Dave Matthews Band, Iggy Pop, and Willie Nelson. And "BRIGHT FAME" was recorded at the famed Avatar Studios in New York, now known as Power Station. Recording the album "BRIGHT FAME" at Avatar, now known as Powerstation Studios, was another fantastic experience. He recorded the album in studio A, where The Roling Stones, Elton John, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, Peter Gabriel, Aerosmith, Blondie, and Chic recorded their platinum-selling albums. And here, an independent artist like ROB Rise On Belief was recording in the same Studio as these legends. ROB Rise On Belief was like kids in a candy store, and once everything was plugged in all ready to go, they began to play like the very Legends who occupied Studio A before them.
