"Rob Valentine's No Coincidences - Album Review"

On June 24, 2016, hip-hop artist Rob Valentine released his debut album, No Coincidences. While Rob has been on the music scene since 2009, it has taken a bit of time for him to release his official debut album, No Coincidences. Rob Valentine is multi-talented artist from South Dennis, Massachusetts, who makes Hip Hop/Rap/ R&B and Acoustic music. He sings while also playing the guitar and piano.

No Coincidences is a soundcloud exclusive consisting of nine tracks while being released through Light House Music. All original songs are written, recorded, and engineered by Rob. Production work includes beats produced by Drix, Prototyp3 and others. The album has one featured artist, Young Artz on “So Cold”, who hails from the United Kingdom. No Coincidences starts off strong with “No More”, as it’s loud and hits you in the face. The album is similar to much of today’s hip-hop music. It’s a blend of different sounds and tones, as it’s part hip-hop mainly, but r&b at other times. No Coincidences contains a spectrum of topics; relationships, homage for where he’s from (Cape Cod), starting a movement and chasing your dream. No Coincidences is a great platform for Rob to display his depth and abilities as not only an artist, but as a producer and engineer. It’s a positive start for Rob, who’s determined to show that outside of Boston there’s talent and Cape Cod is one of those places that contains a few hidden gems.

Rob answered a few questions in a short Q&A discussing the meaning behind the album name No Coincidences and the driving forces of the album.

Why the title, No Coincidences?

Rob Valentine: I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. We all come from different paths of life. Many of us feel trapped within ourselves. We face problems that we don’t talk about. So to me, “No Coincidences” is a reminder that everything I have lived through inner and outer has made me stronger and sculpted me into who I am now. I hope after hearing the album others feel the same way about themselves.

What would you say were the driving forces/ factors behind the album?

Rob Valentine: I think that the driving force was to be heard, and understood. I want to tell a story, you know, paint a picture. I feel like today in society we are to quick to run away from our problems. I want to address and face these problems with the listener through my music.

What are you most looking forward to with putting out your debut album, No Coincidences?

Rob Valentine: I am just happy to have put out this album that in itself is huge for me. I am hoping to interact with more people through my music. I am looking forward to having friends show their other friends my music. I am hoping to touch people with my music. Most importantly though, I want to prepare people for more to come.

Would you say there’s a distinct sound/tone you were trying to get on this album?

Rob Valentine: Yeah, actually! This album sets the tone that you can do anything you set out to do. That you don’t need everyone to like you, and you don’t need the nicest things to be great. All you need is yourself and a dream. I used to struggle with not fitting in and being unpopular I hung out with the same people doing the same thing every weekend. I had goals but had no realistic way of achieving them. One day I decided “that life is not for me.” I told myself that those goals were not my goals anymore. And I wrote about it.
