"Best Up and Coming DFW Bands"

Don’t miss out on some of the best musical talent to come out of the Dallas/Forth Worth area. These are the area’s best up-and-coming bands of 2014. See them now before they get too big and ticket prices soar.

The Gentlemen Vain consists of Daniel Villanueva, Robert Cody Maxwell, Clemente Gomez and David Snawder. Robert Cody Maxwell is the lead singer. Maxwell said, “My backing band is ‘The Gentlemen Vain’ in reference to Dutch Vanitas artwork [still-life] and the temporal nature of earthly life, and it is a reflection of our own focus artistically on the fragile nature of our lives and our relationship to our world.” The band’s style is described as Americana or indie-folk music, with vocal harmony-centric arrangements in the style of The Avett Brothers and Jackson Browne. - CBS Local

Bio

Maxwell is Waco, Texas born multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter and sideman who tours and records with a revolving door of acts. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where he provides auxiliary instrumentation for recordings and live performances in the Lower East Side folk music scene.

As a soloist, Maxwell produces intimate live experiences that sometimes feel more like theatre than folk music, drawing comparisons to Pennsylvania's Langhorne Slim or Sweden's Kristian Matsson (The Tallest Man on Earth). In addition to playing alone, Maxwell also fronts a rock and roll band. It's a lively, lyric-driven, harmony-centric affair, drawing heavily from Jackson Browne, Dawes, and Bruce Springsteen.

Maxwell is also one-half of a more traditionally folk-music centered project with Tennessee native and former Brooklynite Robert Kitchens (The Tumble, The Bookhouse Boys, Kitchens' Inc.). They perform together as a duo under the name Roberts. Rolling guitar lines and vocal harmonies channel the spirit of The Dave Rawlings Machine and The Milk Carton Kids, and their interpretations of the great American songbook breathes new life into the genre. They are one part Texas, one part Tennessee
